Role description

The Backend Developer designs, builds, and supports backend services, workflow orchestration, and integrations for PAH's bespoke Commercial Genetics ERP solution. The role delivers secure, reliable, and performant REST APIs and backend components using Java and Spring Boot. The position partners closely with the Technical Product Manager and cross-functional colleagues to translate business needs into maintainable, testable software. Responsibilities include data access patterns using JOOQ, Camunda Modeler (BPMN Workflows), Database as PSQL, event-driven processing with RabbitMQ, and search capabilities using Elasticsearch. The role contributes to quality through automated testing (TestNG) and Unit Test Cases, code review, and disciplined engineering practices. The position also participates in incident/defect triage and drives root-cause fixes to improve stability and delivery throughput. The position is responsible for maintaining/supporting existing applications and enhancements to the existing functionality.

Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java / Spring Boot; deliver secure, reliable, and performant service implementations.

Build and maintain REST APIs (validation, error handling, versioning, and contract-first patterns).

Implement BPMN workflows using Camunda Modeler; integrate workflow orchestration with backend services and integrations.

Implement event-driven/asynchronous processing and integrations using RabbitMQ (durability, retries, idempotency patterns).

Implement data access and query layers using JOOQ (SQL quality and performance-aware queries).

Implement and tune Elasticsearch indexing and query patterns to support efficient search and retrieval.

Create and maintain automated tests using TestNG and Unit Test cases; contribute to CI quality gates and regression prevention.

Participate in code reviews, defect triage, and root-cause analysis; drive stability and maintainability improvements.
