Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Azure Database Engineer to support Minnesota's Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS) modernization initiative. This project involves consolidating data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure Data Lakehouse to support a new statewide child welfare platform.
The Azure Database Engineer will design, develop, implement, and maintain Azure databases and data lakes while ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performing data solutions. This role will also collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor other Database Engineers.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain Azure relational and non-relational databases.
- Build and support Azure Data Lakes and Data Lakehouse solutions.
- Develop data transformation and data loading processes.
- Optimize database performance, security, and data access.
- Implement backup, disaster recovery, and CI/CD solutions.
- Monitor Azure database environments and maintain technical documentation.
- Collaborate with technical teams and mentor junior engineers.
Qualifications- 7+ years of experience designing and implementing Azure databases and Data Lakes.
- Strong experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Oracle, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Azure monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and security (RBAC, encryption, network security).
- Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, indexing, and cloud infrastructure.
- Strong analytical, communication, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Skills- Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instances and Elastic Pools.
- Knowledge of Data Warehouse Administration and Teradata.
- Experience with Azure Monitor, ARM Templates, Azure CLI/PowerShell, SQL Analytics, and Query Performance Insight.
