Full Job Description
Apply your Microsoft Azure engineering experience to help modernize, secure, and operate a large enterprise cloud environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on Azure professional who can assess existing infrastructure, remediate configuration gaps, support cloud migrations, implement Infrastructure as Code, improve monitoring, and resolve production issues.

You will help transition legacy Azure workloads into a standardized and governed Azure Cloud Landing Zone while supporting reliable, secure, and compliant cloud operations.

This is not a high-level architecture-only position. The role requires direct experience working with Azure infrastructure, monitoring, incident response, migrations, automation, and operational support.

Project Overview

This position supports the modernization and ongoing operation of a Microsoft Azure cloud environment.

The work includes assessing existing Azure resources, addressing configuration and governance gaps, migrating subscriptions and workloads into a standardized Azure Cloud Landing Zone, and implementing monitoring, logging, alerting, security, and cost-management capabilities.

The engineer will also support incident response, root-cause analysis, vulnerability remediation, documentation, dashboards, and operational runbooks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess existing Microsoft Azure resources, subscriptions, workloads, and configurations.
  • Identify and remediate gaps involving:

  • Support the migration of subscriptions and workloads from legacy Azure environments into a standardized Azure Cloud Landing Zone.
  • Implement and maintain approved Azure architecture patterns.
  • Build and support Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code.
  • Develop and maintain ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform, or comparable automation.
  • Configure and support Azure services across:
    • Compute
    • Networking
    • Storage
    • Identity
    • Security
  • Implement Azure monitoring, logging, alerting, and dashboards.
  • Monitor cloud environments for:
    • Availability
    • Performance
    • Security posture
    • Capacity
    • Cost
    • Operational health
  • Respond to production alerts and cloud incidents.
  • Perform technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Support vulnerability remediation and cloud-security improvements.
  • Coordinate with infrastructure, security, application, network, and shared-services teams.
  • Support hybrid-cloud integrations between on-premises environments and Azure.
  • Develop and maintain:

  • Communicate risks, incidents, remediation plans, and operational status to technical and business stakeholders.

Required Qualifications
  • Four to seven years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a related IT role.
  • Strong hands-on experience supporting Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with Azure Government or another regulated cloud environment.
  • Experience implementing and supporting Azure infrastructure components, including:
    • Compute
    • Networking
    • Storage
    • Identity
    • Security services
  • Experience implementing Azure monitoring, logging, and alerting.
  • Experience supporting performance, availability, security visibility, and incident-response activities.
  • Experience assisting with cloud migrations or modernization initiatives.
  • Experience moving workloads into standardized cloud environments such as an Azure Cloud Landing Zone.
  • Hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience using one or more of the following:
    • ARM templates
    • Bicep
    • Terraform
  • Working knowledge of cloud-security practices, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting cloud operations, including:
    • Proactive monitoring
    • Incident response
    • Technical troubleshooting
    • Root-cause analysis
  • Ability to work independently within a structured enterprise or government environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical-documentation experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience supporting Azure Government workloads.
  • Experience supporting state or federal government cloud environments.
  • Experience with Texas government cloud standards, processes, or governance.
  • Experience supporting Texas Department of Information Resources environments.
  • Experience implementing or supporting an Azure Landing Zone in a government or highly regulated organization.
  • Familiarity with government cloud-security standards.
  • Experience integrating on-premises systems with Azure Government.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications such as:
    • Azure Administrator Associate
    • Azure Security Engineer Associate
    • Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Experience with Azure Policy, management groups, subscription governance, tagging, or cost controls.
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, or Microsoft Defender for Cloud.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Azure Cloud Engineer who can operate comfortably across infrastructure, security, automation, monitoring, and production support.

This person has experience taking an existing Azure environment, identifying where it does not meet enterprise standards, and helping transition workloads into a secure and governed Landing Zone.

The strongest candidate will be comfortable troubleshooting incidents, writing Infrastructure as Code, building monitoring dashboards, documenting operational procedures, and working with multiple government and technical teams.
