Full Job Description
Job Summary:

Core function of this position is to oversee technical activities related to the evaluation and repair of structural components within power generating facilities. Position requires experience within heavy industrial environments, providing engineering oversight to plant facilities, and identifying code compliant repair methodologies to existing equipment and structures.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate the strength, stability, and rigidity of structures using engineering principles and methods; assess the integrity of existing structures and recommend repairs or modifications as needed
  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) software and other tools for structural analysis and modeling; analyze model structures and their behavior under different loads and conditions
  • Investigate and diagnose structural issues and failures, provide recommendations for repairs or modifications
  • Perform risk assessments and propose solutions to mitigate potential structural failures
  • Review lifting & rigging plan designs
  • Provide geotechnical determinations & reviews
  • Support safe access reviews and stabilization efforts of damaged structures
  • Support of critical infrastructure inspection program
  • Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and reports for repair/construction projects
  • Oversee, conduct and document feasibility reviews of proposed projects.
  • Collaborate with plant engineers, contractors, and other specialists to ensure designs meet project requirements; prepare and present technical reports and documentation for clients and stakeholders
  • Conduct on-site inspections to monitor construction progress and ensure that the project meets safety and quality standards
  • Develop, build and maintain a working relationship with site personnel consistent with supporting open communication.
  • Work effectively in a team environment as a leader, member and/or facilitator.
  • Project and Work Management: Collaborate with corporate engineering, plant personnel, and external firms on the design and commissioning of complex projects.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensuring compliance with codes, standards, safety regulations, and applicable rules/laws.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required.


Working Conditions:
  • This position is a combination of remote work, in office and industrial settings.
  • This position can require up to 30% domestic travel.


Minimum Requirements
  • BS Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Five years of prior professional experience
  • Experience with advanced structural analysis software and tools
  • In-depth knowledge of structural analysis and design principles
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering codes and standards
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal


Preferred Qualifications
  • MS Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 7 years of experience in an industrial environment (power, chemical)
  • Experience with advanced structural analysis software and tools
  • In-depth knowledge of structural analysis and design principles
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering codes and standards
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, STAAD, Navisworks


Physical Requirements (Demand and Frequency):
  • Must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses, and other PPE as required.
  • Duties require extensive manual dexterity in usage of computer terminal and keyboard, while sitting for extended periods of time preparing budgets, work scopes, outage schedules, and other reports as needed.
  • May be required to enter Permit Entry Confined Spaces
  • May be required to perform equipment inspections by climbing vertical ladders and accessing scaffolding, kneeling, bending, walking over uneven surfaces such as loose rock, open grating, up and down staircases.
