Sompo has a unique opportunity for an AssistantVice President, US Healthcare Claims in our North America Claims team.

This role will manage claims arising from or involving policies issued from Sompo's US Healthcare team. This position handles US Healthcare claims and provides legal review and policy drafting support to Underwriting. The successful candidate will be able to provide insight and analysis on US Healthcare claims across various product lines, including primary medical liability, excess and surplus lines, and allied healthcare.

What you'll be doing:
  • Manage U.S. Healthcare claims, related systems, and core processes
  • Evaluate exposures and make substantive claim decisions on complex healthcare claims and, as needed, other lines of business
  • Provide sophisticated coverage, liability, and damages analysis, while identifying trends and emerging exposures affecting the portfolio
  • Support underwriting through legal review, policy drafting, and timely, accurate exposure reporting to underwriting and management
  • Ensure clear, timely preparation and distribution of narrative and financial claim reports
  • Contribute to the Global Claims Team by partnering across regions and functions on strategic projects, industry engagement, complex claims, and other management-directed responsibilities, including travel as needed


What you'll bring:
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience required in handling claims involving Healthcare Liability with a career history of increasing responsibility.
  • Law degree required, preference will be given if experience was at both a law firm and with an insurance carrier.
  • Adjusters license required.
  • Strong preference for candidate who has pursued or is in the process of pursuing an insurance related designation, e.g., RPLU or CPCU.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish close working relationship with other departments including underwriting & actuarial.
  • Strong negotiating, analytical, written, and organizational skills.


Salary Range: $145,000 - $195,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
