Job DescriptionWe are seeking a strategic and dynamic leader to spearhead profitable growth and talent development within our Life Sciences Middle Market regional team. This position presents a remarkable opportunity for a motivated individual dedicated to achieving outstanding results.
Key Responsibilities:The Life Sciences Team Leader will oversee the development and management of both internal and external relationships within the Life Sciences Southeast Region. The primary objectives for this role include providing underwriting guidance, managing the portfolio, enhancing marketing and agency relationships, and fostering sales and marketing skills among team members.
- Leading an underwriting team of four professionals (three upper middle market underwriters and one lower middle market underwriter).
- Overseeing Profit & Loss accountability for the Life Sciences business in the New York Region, which currently generates $28 million in revenue. This includes managing premium, profitability, growth, retention, and expense plans/results.
- Executing underwriting strategies, specifically focusing on new middle market underwriting and renewal processes.
- Serving as a technical underwriting resource in collaboration with the Life Sciences Territory Underwriting Manager and specialists, providing support for referrals and underwriting authority.
- Ensuring quality assurance by monitoring underwriting quality through quarterly self-audits, referral interactions, and Corporate Underwriting Audits.
- Cultivating key relationships within the life sciences sector in the region, facilitating product education and appetite overviews, and engaging in client visits.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 7+ years of Property & Casualty underwriting experience, with prior leadership exposure.
- Previous management experience is strongly preferred
- A comprehensive understanding of middle market Property & Casualty products, along with experience in life sciences-specific middle market exposures.
- Strong knowledge of distribution strategies involving brokers, regional, and independent agents.
- Proven people management skills.
- Exceptional technical and underwriting leadership capabilities to effectively manage a team of multiline commercial underwriters.
- Demonstrated agility in communication, with robust negotiation skills and effective customer engagement.
- Ability to build strategic relationships and foster a strong customer focus.
