This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

This role is for a mid-career engineer within the vehicle Avionics team for a lunar spacecraft. This position will support hands-on work with the hardware in development and flight labs, with primary focus on integration and test of the hardware on the flight vehicle builds in Florida.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Focal for subsystem-level test activities related to vehicle avionics systems. These may include electrical power systems, compute and network systems, and RF communications subsystems.
  • Requirements development and managementfor avionics subsystems, including traceability and verification planning using industry-standard tools and processes
  • Development and executionof development, verification, and validation work in laboratory and production environments
  • Integration of avionics interfaceswith other vehicle subsystems, such as GNC, power, propulsion, and mechanical systems
  • Support for long-lead hardware identificationand procurement planning to meet desired launch targets, including test equipment for development or subsystem verification test activities.
  • Utilize good engineering and business judgmentto ensure the most efficient and effective product is designed, manufactured, procured, tested, qualified, and delivered

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS Degree in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, or related Engineering field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experiencein relevant areas of engineering operations
  • Experience with subsystem test in the lab and vehicle build environments, including hardware/software integration
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing/Design for Test core principles.
  • Avionics hardware component assembly and test experience
  • Avionics hardware and software integration experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhDin the subject disciplines
  • 8+ years of industry technical experienceinvolving system formulation, research and development, and/or operations applied to spacecraft systems and environments
  • Experience with human-rated spacecraft systemsand safety-critical design processes for crewed missions
  • Strong team leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Requirements management experienceincluding familiarity with requirements management tools and aerospace standards
  • Scripting, Programming and Analysis: TCL, Python, Linux shell and Windows batch scripting; C / C++; MATLAB / Simulink, HSPICE and HFSS (or similar modeling/analysis tools)
  • Spacecraft avionics hardware environmental test experienceincluding radiation, vibration, and thermal testing
  • Cross-organizational coordination experienceworking with multiple engineering teams and external organizations
  • Ability to execute in a dynamic, fast-paced, and driven work environment
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships
