Avionics & AP&S Deputy Chief Engineer (K Level Manager)

Boeing Global Services (BGS) is seeking a motivated and experienced Avionics & AP&S Deputy Chief Engineer (K Level Manager) to lead our Avionics & Airframe, Performance & Systems (AP&S) Commercial Modifications Engineering team in Long Beach, CA.

As the Avionics & AP&S Deputy Chief Engineer , you will lead a team of highly skilled Project Engineers supporting Avionics and Airframe, Performance & Systems (AP&S) product lines. You will be accountable for delivering complex modification projects by coordinating across Engineering, Program Management, certification authorities, and other key stakeholders.

This is a high-visibility role where you will leverage the breadth of Boeing’s technical resources and drive the performance, quality, and safety of post-production modification programs.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop an engineering team responsible for Avionics or AP&S Modifications execution, establishing clear priorities, performance expectations, and accountability for technical delivery, schedule commitments, and quality outcomes.
  • Provide people leadership and coaching by mentoring engineers, supporting career development, delivering feedback, and building team capability in technical execution, collaboration, and problem solving.
  • Drive project execution in partnership with Program Management by helping establish integrated plans, resource strategies, schedules, and milestone commitments that support business objectives and customer needs.
  • Oversee technical risk, issue, and opportunity management by ensuring risks are identified early, mitigation plans are sound, issues are resolved, and opportunities are captured across all relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Guide resolution of complex cross-functional technical challenges by facilitating decision-making, leading or supporting Technical Design Reviews (TDRs), and engaging Subject Matter Experts as needed to resolve technical gaps.
  • Ensure certification and compliance execution by supporting engagement with FAA-appointed personnel and reinforcing adherence to regulatory, configuration control, and company process requirements.
  • Review and respond to changes in scope, statement of work, and program assumptions by assessing impacts to technical content, resources, cost, schedule, certification, and deliverables, and helping negotiate appropriate changes.
  • Support proposal and planning activities by evaluating Statements of Work, defining the level of engineering effort required, identifying certification and configuration impacts, and contributing to executable cost and schedule estimates.
  • Establish and track performance metrics to monitor engineering throughput, quality, schedule performance, risk burndown, and overall team effectiveness; take action based on trends and results.
  • Lead process improvement and innovation initiatives that improve first-time quality, reduce rework and cost, streamline engineering flow, and strengthen cross-functional execution.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability by reinforcing proactive safety awareness, compliance with Boeing policies and processes, and consistent use of disciplined engineering practices.
  • Apply business acumen and influence across the organization by aligning team priorities to program needs, customer expectations, and broader business objectives while building effective relationships across functions.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership”.
  • 3+ years of experience working within FAA (Or EASA) regulations.
  • Experience communicating complex technical risks, translating impact, and advising senior leaders.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 10% of the time both domestically and Internationally.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of experience leading multi-disciplined, complex engineering projects and teams across multiple organizations.
  • Knowledge of Boeing's organizations, processes, program plans, policies and procedures, and products required to effectively perform functional responsibilities of the occupation.
  • Experience training and/or mentoring in a technical environment.
  • Experience presenting to executive level leadership.
