Full Job Description
Under administrative direction, the Aviation Marketing and Development Manager leads route development strategies, oversees technical data analysis and airline forecasting, and evaluates new market opportunities. The role manages airline relationships through frequent meetings, identifies competitive threats, and recommends programs to retain and grow incumbent air traffic. You'll supervise and mentor a research analyst, coordinate market intelligence at industry conferences, and contribute to international marketing campaigns. The Aviation Marketing and Development Manager also monitors expenditures, supports monthly financial reporting, provides executive leadership with early notice of potential cost issues, and helps refine operational procedures within the Aviation Marketing & Development unit. Manage airline route development strategies with a focus on increasing airport revenues by securing new destinations and airlines; work closely with airline executive management teams to develop and promote international traffic growth; prepare route business cases to promote the expansion of air traffic at SFO; direct projects and technical data analysis for airline forecasts. 2. Create and maintain relationships with SFO's 50+ incumbent airlines; participate in frequent airline meetings, events, conferences, on-site tours, and events which include both international and domestic travel. 3. Supervise, mentor, train, and evaluate staff; oversee and monitor the work of consultants and contractors supporting departmental operations. 4. Organize and prepare monthly aviation development reports for both internal and external users and respond to internal aviation data requests. 5. Oversee SFO's annual Air Carrier Incentive Program (ACIP) and manage airline applications to the program. 6. Work with other managers and staff to evaluate and implement goals, policies and procedures of the division; work closely with other divisions and departments to implement SFO's slot optimization policy; serve as the AMAD liaison to internal divisions, as well as external stakeholders like TSA and CBP. 7. Manage budget preparation and implementation for the AMAD unit; provide executive management advance notification and potential solutions to cost overruns. 8. Work closely with airlines on international marketing initiatives and assist in managing SFO's relationships with Destination Marketing Organization partners and international agencies to create impactful and measurable campaigns. 9. Serve as a guest experience champion by hosting visiting delegations from international airlines, as well as media and travel trade guests from abroad. Duties include coordinating visits with other SFO divisions and helping plan airline special events such as anniversaries and inaugural celebrations. 10. Perform other functions outlined in the 0923 Manager II job classification. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: 1. Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; AND 2. Experience: Four (4) years of professional-level experience in airline route development, aviation analysis, aviation marketing, or tourism marketing. AND 3. License and Certification: Possession of a valid California driver's license. Education Substitution: Qualifying experience as described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis for up to two (2) years. (One year of work experience is equal to 30 semester or 45 quarter units). One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
