Job Description:

Do you want to help shape the future of autonomy at Caterpillar? As an Application Architect for the next generation of Autonomous Surface Loading, you will be responsible for applying our autonomy tech stack to new haulage equipment. You will lead a team of engineers to develop Autonomous and Remote-Control Solutions on Caterpillar equipment. Working in a fast-paced environment with a small team of highly motivated engineers, you will be responsible for the application design, implementation, troubleshooting, and release of the autonomous system. The incumbent needs to be highly motivated and flexible enough to learn quickly and fail fast.

What You Will Do:
  • Work with machine product group for integration of autonomous system on their machine
  • Lead the design, implementation, testing, and release of application design and software for the autonomous system
  • Troubleshoot system integration issues
  • Ensure alignment of the system design with the 1Autonomy Architecture
  • Follow and Champion 1Autonomy Work Standards
  • Lead/mentor team members


What You Have:
  • Technical Excellence:
    • Proven ability to work on production products through design, implementation, customer rollout, and support.
    • Knowledge and experience with Autonomous Systems
    • Mentor others to increase their technical abilities, ensuring the most effective technical solutions.
  • Software Product Design/Architecture:
    • Demonstrated experience with the architecture and design of major products
    • Experience in estimating the cost of a specific design of a proposed product
    • Facilitate design reviews and walkthroughs.
    • Ability to analyze benefits and drawbacks of specific software designs and architecture.
    • Proven experience in C++ design and development.
  • Influencing Through Expertise:
    • Strong working knowledge of the Caterpillar Command ecosystem in mining or construction, or other centralized control system architectures which can be drawn upon for design proposals and decisions.
    • Constantly staying abreast of advancements in the Autonomy and mining industries.
    • Provides evidentiary support while giving opinions or recommendations to influence decision making.
    • Conducts tasks in such a way as to build a strong reputation and credibility as an expert in the field.
  • Effective Communications:
    • Effectively communicate ideas and design tradeoffs to team members and stakeholders
    • Willing to spend the time to document designs, requirements, and success criteria to assure team member alignment
    • Clearly explains project goals to team members, keeps leadership informed of progress, and shares relevant updates with external partners
    • Uses data-driven arguments, active listening, and tailored messaging to persuade stakeholders and achieve consensus.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities:
    • Effectively communicates ideas and design tradeoffs to team members and stakeholders
    • Recognizes and acts upon changing demands and priorities and communicates impacts.


Consideration for Top Candidates:
  • A Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Proven Experience as a Software Engineer in C++ Development for product design and development.
  • Proven Experience in creating system level requirements for engineering product development projects.
  • Experience in Construction or Mining industry; preferred experience with Robotics, Autonomy, or Automation
  • Knowledge and experience with Wheel Loaders, Excavators, Hydraulic Mining Shovels or Tracked Loaders preferred
  • Experience with CAT Products and tools preferred


Additional Information:
  • This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Mossville, IL or Dallas, TX Office
  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $240,110.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
