This position supports Worley Consulting's Autonomous Mining & Technology initiatives by providing high-quality technical solutions, documentation, analytical support, and coordination across Mine Automation & Technology projects, across Canada, the U.S., and South America.

Purpose

The Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) Mining Technical Consultant provides technical engineering and consulting support for automation and autonomous systems in surface mining operations. The role supports clients across the full project lifecycle, including technology assessments, front-end studies, system definition, implementation support, and operational readiness for autonomous and automation-enabled mining environments.

This position combines practical surface mining experience with a strong understanding of automation, autonomous haulage, tele-remote operations, controls, and digital systems to deliver robust, reliable, secure, and fit-for-purpose solutions that improve safety, productivity, asset reliability, and operational performance.

This is a full-time hybrid position based at a Worley office location in Canada or the U.S.

Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
  • Support Mining Automation and Technology Subject Matter Experts across autonomous mining and technology projects.
  • Create, consolidate, and maintain high-quality technical deliverables including reports, market analysis, presentations, and automation deliverables for the client.
  • Ensure consistency and alignment of technical content with project requirements and standards.
  • Analyze and interpret technical information to support decision-making and recommendations.
  • Support execution of assigned work packages with a high level of independence.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams across mining, telecom, mechatronics, digital, automation, and consulting disciplines.
  • Provide clear and effective written and verbal communication to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply Worley processes, systems, and quality requirements consistently.
  • Support continuous improvement of documentation workflows and knowledge management practices.
  • Approximately 25% travel is expected. The role is hybrid and 3 days per week is expected in office when not travelling.


What you will bring

Technical and Industry Experience
  • Significant experience in surface mining operations, projects, or consulting, with exposure to automation, Tele remote or autonomous systems.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, operating and maintaining AHS in a working mine
  • Practical experience in surface mining operations (open pit preferred) with exposure to production, mine planning, or operations support
  • First-hand understanding of haulage, drilling, loading, and fleet interactions in active mining environments
  • Experience supporting or working alongside mine operations teams (not purely desktop studies)
  • Familiarity with OEM systems (e.g., Komatsu, CAT, Hexagon) at a system-integration and operational-readiness level
  • Experience delivering client:
    • System suitability and trade-off studies
    • Operational readiness & ramp up project phases
    • Safety cases, risk assessments, and operating envelope plans
    • Continuous improvement findings on AHS performance post deployment

Consulting and Professional Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical engineering mindset.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and succinctly with operations, technical teams, OEMs, and client stakeholders.
  • Ability to bridge technical detail and operational reality (engineering + mine ops)
  • Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams across engineering and digital domains.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple workstreams.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
  • Degree in Mining Engineering or related engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Controls, Computer)
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. / P.E.) preferred where applicable
  • Training or familiarity with mining safety standards (e.g., MSHA or equivalent)
  • Exposure to data, analytics, or digital mining platforms is increasingly valued

Additional Information

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is CAD$166,832 to $245,341, commensurate with experience.

For Denver, Colorado based candidates, the salary range is USD $163,863-$240,975 annually, commensurate with experience.

Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate's qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
