Responsibilities
THE ROLE:
AMD’s Computing and Graphics Central Engineering (CGC) team is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to drive automation initiatives across our product lines.
In this role, you will play a key part in designing and implementing scalable automation solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and engineering velocity. You will contribute to automation framework development, integrate tools and processes, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows.
Your technical expertise and hands-on approach will help build robust automation systems that enable operational excellence at scale.
THE PERSON:
As an Automation Engineer in Systems Design Engineering, you will help design, build, and scale automation solutions that reduce manual effort and enhance product quality.
You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and enjoy collaborating with diverse teams to deliver efficient, maintainable solutions. You bring strong technical depth in automation, scripting, and debugging, along with a continuous improvement mindset.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop automation frameworks supporting diverse workloads across AMD’s Computing and Graphics product lines
- Build scalable, maintainable solutions suitable for large-scale environments
- Perform complex, system-level debugging across OS, drivers, firmware, silicon, and platform interactions
- Enhance and scale automation systems supporting GPU and CPU workloads
- Prototype, test, and continuously improve automation tools and best practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to solve complex automation challenges
- Contribute across the full lifecycle: functional design, process design, development, testing, and support
- Clearly document solutions, processes, and lessons learned
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strong hands-on experience with Python for automation, validation, and debugging tools
- Proven experience debugging system-level issues across software and hardware stacks
- Knowledge of CPU/GPU architectures, system platforms, memory, and interconnects (preferred)
- Experience with post-silicon validation, system bring-up, or performance/power analysis (preferred)
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and modern IDE environments
- Experience in agent-based coding workflows, AI-enhanced debugging, or using AI tools for productivity improvement
- Familiarity with Git, Jira, and Agile/Scrum development practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to debugging
- Excellent communication skills for engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
Bachelors or Masters degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical or related discipline
