Full Job Description
The Automation Platform Engineer is a high-impact practitioner at the center of a transformational shift in how a top-10 U.S. bank builds and ships software. You will build, operate, and relentlessly improve the AI-powered automation and CI/CD platforms that engineering teams depend on every day across GitLab SaaS, Ansible Automation Platform, JFrog Artifactory, and SonarQube. This is not maintenance work. You will embed agentic AI into developer workflows, build Event-Driven Ansible pipelines that self-remediate before humans intervene, and instrument distributed systems with deep observability that turns reactive operations into proactive intelligence. You think in golden paths and write the playbooks, templates, and automation patterns that multiply the productivity of hundreds of teams across tens of thousands of repositories. If you want your craft to define what modern platform engineering looks like at scale and leave a mark that outlasts any single release, this is where you do it. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Independently designs, develops, tests, and maintains complex software components and services addressing business and user requirements. 2. Implements advanced features and enhancements using established coding standards, architectural patterns, and development best practices. 3. Leads code reviews and provides constructive feedback to ensure code quality, maintainability, and performance. 4. Collaborates with cross-functional technical teams to plan and execute technical initiatives, ensuring timely delivery of solutions. 5. Troubleshoots, debugs, and resolves complex software defects and production issues, applying root-cause analysis and corrective actions. 6. Participates actively in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design discussions, development, testing, deployment, and support. 7. Applies secure coding practices, testing strategies, and documentation standards to ensure software quality and compliance with organizational guidelines. 8. Mentors and supports junior engineers to foster technical growth and adherence to best practices. 9. Utilizes and contributes to existing frameworks, tools, and technologies to enhance application development across relevant technology domains. Qualifications Required Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. In-depth knowledge of information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement IT best practices. Preferred Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree and six or more years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure automation, or DevSecOps, or equivalent combination. 2. Strong proficiency with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) including YAML/Jinja2 playbook authoring, RBAC, automation mesh, credential management, and Event-Driven Ansible (EDA), with experience building AI-assisted remediation workflows and GenAI-integrated automation patterns. 3. Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD including pipeline template design, runner configuration, protected branch enforcement, and SAST/SCA/secrets scan gate management, with familiarity with GitLab Duo agentic capabilities spanning Fix Failed Pipelines and SAST Vulnerability Remediation. 4. Solid experience with JFrog Artifactory repository administration, tagging policies, and artifact promotion workflows, and SonarQube quality gate configuration and code quality enforcement. 5. Solid understanding of REST APIs, Git-based source control workflows, containerization with Podman and Docker, and Kubernetes-based workload management. 6. Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash with experience in infrastructure-as-code, policy-as-code, and AI-assisted code generation patterns in regulated environments. 7. Expertise with OpenTelemetry (OTel) including custom instrumentation, collector configuration, and observability pipeline design for traces, metrics, and logs across service meshes, APIs, and event-driven platforms, with experience using telemetry data to drive AI-informed platform reliability. 8. Knowledge of networking fundamentals, security hardening, RBAC design, and system performance tuning in regulated enterprise environments. 9. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with a passion for translating complex platform challenges into elegant, automated solutions that developers love to use. The annual base salary for this position is $130,000 - $145,000.
