Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:

Sonic Healthcare USA is seeking an Automation & Orchestration Engineer to design, build, and maintain the systems that power automation across our technology environment. This role is responsible for eliminating manual, repetitive processes by developing scalable solutions for infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, configuration management, and operational workflows.

The ideal candidate combines software engineering, systems administration, and DevOps expertise to create reliable, self-service automation that improves efficiency, reduces risk, and accelerates service delivery across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Automation & Orchestration
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated workflows for infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, and configuration management.
  • Build and support orchestration solutions that coordinate complex workflows across systems, applications, and environments.
  • Identify manual, repetitive, or error-prone processes and replace them with scalable automation.
  • Develop self-service capabilities that improve operational efficiency and user experience.


Infrastructure & DevOps
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions to ensure consistent, repeatable, and version-controlled environments.
  • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable and efficient software delivery.
  • Support containerized and cloud-native environments using modern deployment practices.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver automation solutions that scale.


Monitoring & Reliability
  • Integrate monitoring, alerting, and self-healing capabilities into automated systems.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures, pipeline issues, and orchestration challenges.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative solutions.
  • Improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and platform stability.


Documentation & Continuous Improvement
  • Create and maintain automation documentation, runbooks, workflows, and technical standards.
  • Evaluate emerging automation tools and technologies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote automation best practices and support adoption across engineering teams.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in Automation Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or a related infrastructure role.
  • Strong scripting and programming skills using Python, PowerShell, Bash, Go, or similar languages.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management platforms such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Salt.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, CircleCI, or similar tools.
  • Strong Linux/Unix administration experience.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Git and source control best practices.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with workflow orchestration technologies such as Airflow, Argo Workflows, Temporal, or AWS Step Functions.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms including Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, ELK, or EFK.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Amazon SQS.
  • Exposure to security automation and compliance-as-code practices.
  • Industry certifications such as Terraform Associate, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and promoting automation best practices.
