As an Automation Engineer, you will also serve as a trusted technical advisor and advocate, providing leadership and guidance on automation best practices and operational excellence initiatives across the organization.
The successful candidate will lead initiatives to identify operational challenges, gather requirements, and develop scalable solutions leveraging automation and observability technologies. This role requires a strong foundation in automation engineering, modern software development practices, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and observability principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain automation solutions using Ansible, ServiceNow and related technologies.
- Identify manual processes and operational inefficiencies, and develop automated solutions to eliminate repetitive tasks and reduce operational toil.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Infrastructure, Operations, Application Development, Security, and Architecture.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in automation, observability, and Site Reliability Engineering practices.
- Ensure solutions comply with enterprise security policies, standards, and best practices.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives focused on technology modernization, automation, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience with Ansible, GitHub, and Infrastructure Automation practices.
- Experience developing automation solutions using scripting and programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, JSON, and YAML.
- Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and practices.
- Knowledge of observability concepts, including instrumentation, telemetry, monitoring, and alerting.
- Strong understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale automation and operational excellence initiatives.
- Familiarity with GitHub repository administration, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Exposure to cloud platforms and modern infrastructure technologies.
Salary:$75,900.00 - $141,900.00
Pay Type: Salaried

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
