Benesch is proud to announce the opening for a Audit Attorney in our Chicago office! This position is hybrid and has work from home flexibility.

Position Summary:

Do you have corporate experience that includes responding to requests from auditors? Are you looking to utilize your JD in a non-traditional role while still tapping into your corporate legal knowledge? Then you may be interested in our Audit Attorney position. This role is perfect for a licensed attorney who has audit response experience and wants to focus on the administrative tasks and manage the Firm's audit process.

The Audit Attorney plays a critical role in the Firm's process in responding to requests from its clients' auditors. This position is responsible for reviewing financial records, legal documents and compliance reports and working with the Firm's attorneys to respond to all audit requests. Utilizing tools such as iManage, InTapp and Excel, the Audit Attorney works to ensure timely and accurate responses to the external auditors of the Firm's clients while maintaining client confidentiality and protecting attorney-client privilege.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Review audit requests, determine billing, review timekeepers' records, and gather necessary documents including legal files, corporate records, SEC filings, etc., to complete audits.
  2. Communicate with accountants, clients, the Firm's Audit Committee, the Firm's General Counsel's office, billing and/or timekeepers regarding the specifics of an audit response.
  3. Use iManage, InTapp, and other Firm software, create Audit Request Forms and notations while working with various departments, legal assistants, paralegals, etc. for information, and monitor responses for corrections and testing.
  4. Monitor timekeeper responses, revise content as needed and obtain clarification or additional information as needed.
  5. Draft and revise audit letters to comply with the Firm's risk/audit letter policies and procedures.
  6. Work with the relationship and/or reviewing attorneys to review drafts and make necessary revisions and finalize and send audit responses.
  7. Assist with other matters as requested by the Firm's Corporate and Securities Practice Group.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Audit Attorney must have a minimum of 5 years of corporate experience, inclusive of responding to requests from auditors. A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an active license in Illinois, New York or Ohio is required. The Audit Attorney must have strong familiarity with the audit process from start to finish and should be proficient in using iManage, InTapp, or similar programs, and MS Office. The Audit Attorney must be skilled at clearly articulating complex legal matters and issues and understanding the underlying principles in responding to clients' requests for information for their auditors. The Audit Attorney should possess a professional demeanor with outstanding interpersonal and client service skills, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and effective task prioritization.

The salary range for this position is $102K to $140K.

Base pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that Benesch provides to compensate and recognize our staff professionals for their work.
