Summary
Provides day to day legal counsel and operational support within a defined business or legal domain. This role works closely with business partners to ensure legal guidance aligns with business objectives and approved risk tolerance.

Job Duties

• Provide day to day legal advice and guidance to business partners.
• Support department leadership on complex or escalated matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements and legal documents.
• Partner with business stakeholders to support execution of TJU initiatives.
• Identify legal risks and escalate issues appropriately.
• Manage multiple matters simultaneously while maintaining quality and responsiveness.
• Provide day-to-day legal advice and strategic counseling on research-related matters affecting faculty, investigators, research staff, and academic leadership.
• Advise on a broad range of research activities, including sponsored research, clinical trials, collaborations with industry and academic partners, federal grant compliance, data sharing, and research-related contracting.
• Support regulatory compliance involving human subjects research, research privacy and security requirements, conflict of interest matters, research misconduct issues, export controls, and other applicable federal and state requirements.
• Partner with research administration, compliance, institutional review boards, and operational stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
• Review, draft, and negotiate research-related agreements, including clinical trial agreements, sponsored research agreements, material transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, and collaboration agreements.
• Provide practical guidance regarding emerging legal issues affecting biomedical, clinical, and academic research, including artificial intelligence, data governance, intellectual property, and commercialization matters.
• Assist with investigations, audits, governmental inquiries, and responses to regulatory agencies relating to research activities.
• Develop and deliver legal education and training programs for researchers and research administrators.
• Collaborate with other attorneys and business leaders across Jefferson to support institutional initiatives that advance innovation, research growth, and academic excellence.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school.
• 5 years of relevant legal experience.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal analysis skills.
• Experience providing practical, solution oriented legal advice.
• Comfort operating in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
• Strong communication skills and responsiveness to tasks and shifting priorities.
• Ability to collaborate and work cohesively as part of a team.
• ATTY - Licensed Attorney - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
