Summary

This position is in the Legal Division, Labor and Employment Field Unit of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The incumbent will be responsible for providing legal counsel on labor and employment laws and regulations, conducting associated investigations, and defending the FDIC in labor arbitration and employment litigation proceedings.

As an Attorney Advisor in the Legal Division, your duties may include:

  • Provides day-to-day legal advice and counsel to management officials on employee and labor relations, equal employment opportunity law and regulations and matters involving corporate operations.
  • Prepares legal briefs, office memoranda and other legal documents on complex, sensitive legal issues, including those involving questions of first impression and with strongly conflicting precedents that require extensive research, analysis and ingenuity to resolve.
  • Represents the Corporation in labor and employment litigaton matters, pending in Federal administrative agencies (e.g., the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) , Federal court, as well as in labor arbitrations and mediations.
  • Works closely with paralegals and support staff in the preparation of litigation documents and documentation pertaining to performance and disciplinary issues.

This position has a positive education requirement, transcripts must be provided showing degree conferred. Official transcripts must be provided prior to appointment.

  • Education: All attorney and law clerk trainee positions have a minimum education requirement of a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Master of Laws (LL.M.) from a school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
  • Bar Membership: All attorney positions require current active bar membership (valid license to practice law). Admission to the bar of any state, District of Columbia, any United States territory or Commonwealth, or Federal Court is acceptable. Active Bar membership must be verified prior to appointment. Employees must maintain active bar membership while employed as an attorney with the FDIC.

Specialized Experience: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 14-grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience in the practice of law in the area of labor relations, employee relations, and personnel and employment law, to include providing advice and counsel to senior management officials and defending management decisions in administrative litigation.

Salary reflects a pay cap for this position of $257,500.

If selected, you may be required to serve a probationary or trial period as applicable to appointment type. During the probationary or trial period, you will be evaluated for fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
