Full Job Description

RSM is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our Accounting Standards Group (ASG), a component of the firm’s National Professional Standards Group (NPSG). This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about contributing to thought leadership, assisting with consultations on complex accounting and reporting matters, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development, review and maintenance of the firm’s interpretive accounting guidance and educational training courses, which may require collaborating with other members of the NPSG, audit, tax and consulting practices, to enable others to address existing and new accounting standards, emerging practice issues and firm initiatives
  • Monitor and report on the standard-setting activities of the FASB and IASB
  • Assist with drafting of the firm’s comment letters in response to proposed accounting standards updates
  • Lead or co-lead educational training courses in various areas of accounting and financial reporting
  • Assist subject matter experts or specialists consulting with engagement teams and members of the NPSG on complex accounting and financial reporting matters
  • Collaborate with members of Audit Innovation and leverage tools and technology, including AI, to more efficiently execute responsibilities and to develop prompts and agents to help the firm’s audit professionals execute more reliable financial reporting research and execution of required consultations

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Active CPA license
  • Minimum of 5 years of current or recent experience in a public accounting, financial reporting or technical accounting capacity
  • Broad working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience in developing technical accounting publications (such as whitepapers and accounting guides) and educational training courses
  • Excellent accounting research skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and exhibit an exceptional client service attitude
  • Ability to respond and be adaptable to changing priorities
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills, including attention to detail and the ability to clearly explain complex issues
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects or consultations simultaneously
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
  • Willingness to develop new areas of accounting expertise to address firm needs
  • Commitment to continuous development and a passion for sharing new ideas
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the year for teaching and other training programs, team meetings, various projects and work streams of the ASG and participation with professional organizations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced in multiple complex accounting areas such as the variable interest entity consolidation model, derivatives and hedging, distinguishing between debt and equity financing arrangements, financial instruments and credit losses, income taxes, business combinations, leases, revenue recognition, debt modifications, share-based compensation, and fair value measurements
  • Experience with public company accounting and SEC financial reporting
  • Knowledgeable of IFRS, especially significant differences between IFRS and U.S. GAAP in relevant accounting areas)

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $93,500 - $187,600

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
