Hiring salary range: $3,610.06 - $5,157.24 / Bi-weekly

Job Function:

Assist in the life cycle management of information technology solutions to the core component of the transmission operations business of secure and economic operation of the transmission system.

Job Description:
  1. Assist in the development of integrated computer based information solutions for processes related to the correct, efficient, safe and secure operation and operations planning of the Bulk Transmission and Sub-Transmission System. Assist in the analysis of customer requirements, the formation of functional specifications and the development of total information solutions (including software, hardware, or communications as they relate to individual contributors or project management).
  2. Assist in the evolution of existing information systems and tools related to the economic operation, security and settlement of the transmission system by assisting in implementing enhancements to provide additional functionality, improved reliability and/or maintainability and problem correction.
  3. Assist in identifying opportunities for information solutions that will provide benefits for operating the Bulk Transmission and Sub Transmission System. Address the total solution in terms of communications, data sources, software tools, integration with existing functions, user interfaces, algorithms, etc.
  4. Perform specific tasks of assigned work or project, which includes scheduling, estimating of requirements and costs, technical specifications, design development work, budget, tendering, resource requirements, etc. Provide estimates for various programs and ensure work or projects remain within budgeted amounts.
  5. Assist in the evaluation and enhancements of new products/services. Maintain a current knowledge of emerging technologies to ascertain their suitability for use in the secure operation and operations planning of the transmission system.
  6. Develop a close customer relationship to contribute to the identification of potential improvements to existing systems and to identify new information system requirements.
  7. Assist in the development of strategic plans and standards.
  8. Perform other duties as required.


Selection Criteria:

Education:
  • Requires a knowledge of engineering science, physics, applied mathematics and computer science to carry out technical, economic or analytical studies related to the management and control of the bulk transmission system.
  • Requires a knowledge of technical writing to prepare effective reports and documentation. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of a four-year university education in the appropriate discipline, or by having the equivalent level of education.


Experience:
  • Requires experience with specialized real-time and off-line computer tools required for operating the power transmission system.
  • Requires experience related to the fields of (a) computer tool required for secure operation of bulk transmission system, (b) supporting computer system required for transmission network control. Requires experience in the areas of (1) design concepts as they relate to the functions and characteristics of power system components (2) analytical studies and the application of computer techniques to solve power system problems,(3) familiarity with power system operation, practices and procedures (4) computer architecture and computer system support. A period of over 4 years and up to and including 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
