Position Summary

Position Summary:

The Associate Vice President for Human Resources (AVP for HR) provides leadership, direction, and oversight for the Human Resources unit and serves as the Title IX liaison for employees of the College. The AVP for HR reports to the Vice President for Talent and Culture and is the direct supervisor of the Human Resources Manager, the Talent Acquisition Lead, the Compensation and HRIS Specialist, and the Administrative Assistant to the AVP of HR. The AVP for HR utilizes varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of all human resources functions, including employee relations, talent acquisition and management, compensation and benefits, professional development, compliance, performance management, and HRIS.

2. Lead proactive employee and labor relations strategies, including investigations, conflict resolution, coaching, and performance improvement, while equipping managers with tools and training to effectively lead their teams.

3. Direct and enhance the performance management lifecycle, including probationary and annual evaluations, ensuring accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement across the organization.

4. Champion initiatives that foster a high-performing, inclusive, and engaged workplace culture, with a focus on employee experience, retention, and organizational effectiveness.

5. Oversee and optimize the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding and offboarding processes for faculty and staff.

6. Ensure institutional compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations (including ADA, EEO, OCR, and Title IX), serving as a key advisor on risk mitigation and policy adherence.

7. Lead equitable, inclusive, and compliant recruitment and hiring practices, and oversee the ongoing review and administration of HR policies, including the Employee Handbook and Faculty Addendum.

8. Direct the management of personnel records and HR systems to ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and effective reporting, while supporting additional strategic initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.

Required Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree in HR Management, Business Administration, or a related field

2. Ten (10) years of experience in human resources administration

3. Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience

4. Demonstrated ability to understand, develop, communicate, and maintain Human Resources business processes

5. Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state legislation and regulations governing human resources functions, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX, EEO, Workers' Compensation, COBRA, Family Medical Leave Act, etc.

Desired Qualifications

1. Master's Degree

2. Seven (7) or more years of supervisory experience and progressive advancement in roles

3. Previous experience serving as Title IX Coordinator or Deputy

4. Specialized professional human resources certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP)
