Position Overview
Primary Purpose of PositionThe Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Facilities provides executive leadership for the planning,design, construction, operation, and maintenance of North Carolina A&T State University's physical campus. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, the AVC directs the Office of Facilities, which encompasses Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Physical Plant, Property Management, Support Services, and Motor Fleet. The AVC administers the University's custodial services contract and provides strategic direction for major capital projects and day-to-day facilities operations.
The AVC ensures the long-term stewardship of the institution's physical assets and aligns facilities services with the University's strategic plan, Preeminence 2030: North Carolina A&T Blueprint, and the Campus Master Plan. The role advances the University's mission as a doctoral, land-grant, historically Black research university and supports its aspiration to achieve Carnegie R1 (Very High Research Activity) status by delivering the academic, research, residential, athletic, and infrastructure facilities required to enable continued growth.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Office of Facilities provides quality service through planning, building, operating, maintaining, and enhancing North Carolina A&T State University's physical campus. The unit comprises Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Physical Plant, Property Management, Support Services, and Motor Fleet, and administers the University's custodial services contract. Facilities support the University's research, teaching, and service mission and is responsible for advancing the Campus Master Plan in alignment with Preeminence 2030. As part of the University community, members of the Facilities team serve the campus around the clock.
Minimum Requirements Master's degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field, plus a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in facilities management and/or construction management. A bachelor's degree combined with professional training/credentials and/or leadership experience substantively exceeding the established minimum experience may be substituted for the advanced degree. Required knowledge and skills include facilities management and auxiliary services principles and practices; construction rules, regulations, and codes for compliance; RFP and bidding processes, including contractual terms and conditions; an understanding of higher education operations; and proficiency with standard office software and equipment.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Professional licensure or certification in engineering, architecture, or construction is preferred.
Required License or CertificationIs this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site)
