About The RoleWe are looking for a pro-active, highly motivated and result-oriented Associate Underwriter (or Underwriter) to join the Professional & Financial Services (FINPRO) team within Corporate Solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career insurance professional or recent graduate interested in developing expertise in
Directors & Officers Liability (D&O), Employment Practices Liability (EPL), and Fiduciary Liability insurance. You will support underwriting activities while learning how to evaluate risks, structure insurance solutions, and build strong relationships with brokers and clients.
Working closely with senior underwriters, you will assist in analyzing risks, preparing quotations, reviewing submissions, and supporting the growth of our private and nonprofit D&O portfolio. You will also gain exposure to client and broker interactions, participate in team projects, and collaborate with colleagues across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Support the underwriting team in evaluating new and renewal business opportunities.
- Review insurance submissions and gather relevant financial and operational information.
- Assist in analyzing risk exposures and coverage requirements.
- Prepare underwriting documentation, quotations, and policy-related materials.
- Conduct market and industry research to support underwriting decisions.
- Develop knowledge of D&O, Employment Practices Liability, and Fiduciary Liability insurance products.
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in training programs, team projects, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and systems documentation.
This position is located in Chicago, Illinois. Relocation is not an option. SwissRe uses a hybrid work model requiring at least three days in the office each week, with the option to work onsite full-time if preferred.
About You- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Insurance, or a related field preferred.
- 0 to 5 years of experience in insurance, underwriting, finance, banking, accounting, or a related professional environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to take initiative and learn from experienced colleagues.

- Willingness to travel occasionally as needed.
The estimated base salary range for this role is $72,000 to $108,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
