About the Role

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is seeking a talented and driven Senior International Property Underwriter to join our Commercial Property team in New York City. In this high-visibility role, you will leverage your expertise in international property underwriting to manage a sophisticated portfolio of global and domestic large enterprise accounts. You'll be at the forefront of structuring innovative risk transfer solutions, building powerful broker and client relationships, and shaping the future of our North American Retail Property business - a foundational and strategically critical line for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

KeyResponsibilities

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of accounts, including fronted global property programs, ensuring strong performance and growth
  • Analyze and underwrite complex exposures, including Natural Catastrophe (Nat Cat) hazards, with technical precision and strategic insight
  • Assess technical insurability of exposures and coverages on new and renewal submissions, applying sound underwriting judgment
  • Prepare quotations, structure programs, and deliver proposals in alignment with Swiss Re underwriting guidelines and strategy

  • Establish and grow a book of business, proactively marketing and originating new prospects in the Eastern Region
  • Structure capacity deployment and negotiate key terms that align with our underwriting strategy and risk appetite
  • Conduct technical analysis of man-made and Nat Cat property exposures, policy terms, and pricing metrics
  • Mentor and coach less experienced underwriters, sharing knowledge and fostering professional development
  • Lead internal and external projects, including technical, organizational, market, and client development initiatives
  • Represent Swiss Re in meetings with clients, brokers, and other Swiss Re Group entities, acting as a trusted ambassador for the brand
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and team members across the region

About the Team

We are a diverse and inclusive team that thrives in a collaborative environment while fostering and developing independent thought. Our team works with brokers situated in the Eastern Region of the United States, where North American Retail Property stands as a foundational line of business for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions - central to our strong brand and market reputation. The risk transfer solutions we offer through this channel range from ground-up quota share and shared and layered structures to single carrier placements. We also partner closely with our alternative risk transfer group to design innovative and unique solutions tailored to the evolving needs of our clients and brokers.

About You

You are a confident and articulate communicator who builds trusted partnerships with external clients and internal colleagues alike. You are proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-focused environment while managing multiple priorities and delivering results under tight deadlines. A skilled negotiator, you are results-oriented and take full ownership of your decisions. You bring a collaborative spirit, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to excellence that elevates those around you.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • 4-10+ years of underwriting experience with medium to large corporate accounts in commercial property
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance and commercial property underwriting, including complex shared and layered program structures as well as 100% Single Carrier business
  • Solid expertise in Nat Cat and man-made risk management, including loss prevention and technical exposure analysis
  • Strong broker and client network in the NYC Metro / Eastern Region market
  • Proficiency in underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines, with the ability to leverage systems for pricing and program structuring

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Experience in the structuring and fronting of global programs
  • Experience working with Captives
  • Skills working across diverse occupancies, including heavy manufacturing
  • Negotiating skills with the ability to handle multiple deals simultaneously
  • Willingness to travel within the region, including air travel, for client and broker meetings
  • Experience collaborating with alternative risk transfer teams to develop innovative client solutions
