Overview

EPE is looking to recruit an Associate Technical Director with a background in Modelling and Interconnection/Transmission Planning studies. We are ideally looking for a candidate with extensive experience in the MISO and SPP regions but would be open to candidates with strong backgrounds outside these markets. This role is ideal for a technical leader who thrives on solving hard problems, building trusted relationships and driving outsized impact for both our clients and the industry.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and empower a diverse team of engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability and innovation.


  • Demonstrate extreme ownership by taking responsibility for outcomes, decisions and overall team success.


  • Enhance internal capability by coaching staff on both technical and client-facing skills.


  • Enhance delivery frameworks, QA/QC processes, and drive cross collaboration to ensure the team scales effectively.


Client & Market Impact

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to generation, large load and merchant transmission developers helping them navigate MISO and SPP's evolving interconnection landscape.


  • Translate complex technical issues into clear and actionable insights that accelerate client decision-making and support project success.


  • Leverage strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to gather necessary input and make informed recommendations even in situations where there is inherent ambiguity.


  • Lead reviews of interconnection studies and identify creative pathways to remove roadblocks and expedite projects.


Commercial & Strategic Growth

  • Partner with senior leadership to shape and execute EPE's growth strategy across MISO, SPP and beyond.


  • Identify and pursue the development of new services to address our client needs.


  • Lead proposal and RFP development efforts.


  • Contribute thought leadership through conferences, technical papers, and industry forums.


  • Drive the development of internal tools and analytics that strengthen EPE's position in the market.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the electric energy industry.
  • Proven ability to connect the dots between technical deliverables, client needs and their commercial strategy.

  • Strong understanding of MISO, SPP and Utility interconnection requirements and regulatory framework for both generation and load.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Beneficial Experience
  • Direct experience working at an ISO or Utility in the Eastern Interconnect or on behalf of these entities as a consultant would be highly valuable.
  • Experience in IBR modelling and/or load modelling.
  • Working knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, TARA PSCAD, PSLF, or PowerWorld).
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation under experience (bring your passion section.
