Job Description

The Orna Flow Cytometry Core Facility and Orna Drug Discovery team within Lilly is seeking a scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and detail oriented individual with some experience in flow cytometry, including instrument support and maintenance. In this position, the candidate will also be supporting the entire Drug Discovery team with day to day tasks including in vivo sample processing and analysis. The candidate should be able to manage multiple parallel laboratory activities with highly effective time management. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication capabilities, demonstrate excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, and be adept at problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day maintenance and operations of the flow cytometry laboratory and instrumentation, including daily instrument cleaning and maintenance, managing inventory, and maintaining clear communications with users.
  • Provide user support for sample preparation and analysis as well as instrument troubleshooting.
  • Implement cellular assays with primary human, murine and NHP cells including cell culture, flow cytometry, and multiplexed cytokine assays.
  • Participate in ex vivo tissue processing and downstream analysis from murine and NHP experiments.
  • Maintain a well written, accurate and contemporaneous electronic notebook record of performed studies.
  • Demonstrate ability to solve technical problems in a logical and rationale manner.
  • Maintain strong relationships and communication while collaborating on projects with peers.
  • Communicate findings regularly in both team and inter-department level meetings.
  • Contribute to a positive and exciting work environment, working in a strong, entrepreneurial, and creative culture.


Qualifications
  • BS or MS in biology, immunology, or related field
  • 0-2+ years of relevant laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.


Additional Skills
  • Proficiency with BSL2 aseptic technique and culture of immortalized cell lines and primary human immune cells.
  • Previous experience working in a flow cytometry laboratory preferred.
  • Experience with primary cell isolation from human, mouse and NHP whole blood and tissues.
  • Ability to plan and implement complex cell-based assays and analyze data with some supervision.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated, willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism and FlowJo applications.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with experience working in cross-functional teams.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$71,250 - $187,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
