Fundamental Equities sits within BlackRock's Portfolio Management Group (PMG), which encompasses Fundamental and Systematic investing across Fixed Income, Equities and Multi-Asset Strategies.

The Fundamental Equities business manages over $200bn in assets under management across 75+ strategies and more than 200 investment professionals globally. Our teams use traditional bottom-up analytics to identify high-conviction investment ideas and construct deliberate, diversified portfolios across regions, styles and market capitalizations.

Through rigorous research, disciplined portfolio construction and the integration of technology and data-driven insights, Fundamental Equities aims to deliver consistent long-term outcomes for clients. The platform serves a global client base across retail, institutional and intermediary channels and represents a core component of BlackRock's active equity offering.

Product Strategy in Fundamental Equities - Sectors & Thematics

The Sectors & Thematics platform manages c. $80bn in assets under management, supporting a range of thematic, sector, and specialist equity strategies across the Fundamental Equities platform.

The Product Strategy team exists to drive the commercial success of the platform - helping retain and grow client assets by connecting our investment capabilities with the needs of clients and distribution partners.

We work at the intersection of portfolio management, distribution and product, bringing together deep product, portfolio, market and client expertise. We translate investment insight into compelling client narratives, equip distribution teams to engage effectively with clients, and help shape the product and commercial agenda for the platform.

Our Product Strategy model comprises three complementary capabilities: Client Product Strategy, focused on high-value client engagement and commercial opportunities; Core Product Strategy, focused on scalable servicing, investment communication and content; and Platform Strategy, focused on data, technology, workflow innovation and building greater leverage across the business.

Together, the function is responsible for investment communication, commercial enablement, client servicing excellence and the development of scalable processes and tools that support growth across the business.

Role Profile

We are seeking a Product Strategist at either the Associate or Vice President level to join the team in New York. The successful candidate will work closely with portfolio managers, distribution teams, and fellow Product Strategists to enhance client engagement, support asset growth and retention, and communicate differentiated investment insights to internal and external audiences.

The scope of responsibilities, client exposure, and leadership expectations will be tailored to the successful candidate's experience and level.

The role combines investment expertise, commercial acumen, and strategic thinking, providing an opportunity to operate at the intersection of investing, client engagement, and business growth.

The successful candidate will thrive in a highly matrixed team structure, be comfortable dynamically prioritizing multiple demands on their time in a high-pressure environment and have a passion for client service.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on level and experience, responsibilities may include:
  • Develop deep expertise across Thematics & Sectors investment strategies, including portfolio positioning, performance drivers, market opportunities, and competitive differentiation.
  • Partner closely with portfolio managers to articulate investment insights and translate complex investment concepts into compelling client-facing narratives.
  • Support client retention and asset growth through partnership with distribution teams and participation in client, consultant, and prospect engagements.
  • Create, enhance, and maintain high-quality marketing materials, presentations, commentaries, and thought leadership content.
  • Analyze portfolio performance, attribution, holdings, exposures, flows, and market developments to produce actionable insights for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to product positioning, defense messaging, market narratives, and commercial strategy across the product lifecycle.
  • Support strategic initiatives including new product development, product evolution, business expansion opportunities, and platform-wide priorities.
  • Partner with colleagues across Product Strategy, Sales, Marketing, Risk, and Portfolio Management to deliver a consistent and scalable client experience.
  • Respond to complex client and consultant inquiries and serve as a key liaison between investment teams and business partners.
  • For more experienced candidates, lead strategic projects, drive commercial initiatives, mentor junior team members, and represent the platform in client engagements.


Knowledge / Experience

Successful candidates will typically demonstrate:
  • Relevant experience in asset management, equity research, product strategy, investment strategy, client engagement, sales, account management, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of equity markets and investment processes, with an interest in thematic, sector, and growth-oriented investing.
  • High proficiency in using AI to enhance business and personal productivity.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret portfolio, performance, attribution, and market data.
  • Experience communicating investment ideas to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across investment, commercial, product management, risk, and legal/compliance teams.
  • Bachelor's degree required; CFA, MBA, or other advanced qualifications are advantageous.
  • Typically, 3-6 years of relevant experience with demonstrated analytical, communication, and relationship-management skills.
For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$110,000.00 - USD$150,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
