  • Support cross-functional teams with legal advice related to operations, public relations, and other critical areas.

  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.

  • Experience with content, privacy, media, communications, intellectual property or contract law.
  • Demonstrated litigation and regulatory experience.


About the job
As an Associate Product Counsel, you will help develop and implement legal approaches and policies for YouTube, helping product and operations teams make decisions based upon your sound legal judgment. You will be responsible for providing legal advice across many areas of law, including those related to the company's Responsibility initiatives regarding content moderation and generation, election integrity, news, health, machine learning and raising high-quality sources and addressing potentially harmful misinformation and borderline material in YouTube's search and recommendations systems. You will also support your colleagues throughout legal, operations, government relations and public relations on a range of product matters. This includes collaborating with Google lawyers outside the United States (U.S.) on critical matters, including litigation, investigations, and other regulatory work. You will be working in a place that operates very much like a rapidly growing startup business, with a dynamic and intense environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice on YouTube's efforts to foster a responsible and open platform, including initiatives related to content moderation and generation, supporting election integrity, reducing the spread of harmful misinformation and borderline material, raising up high-quality sources for news, health and other information, and preventing bias.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws and regulations dealing with content regulation, copyright, privacy, consumer protection, and sanctions.
  • Provide legal advice to teams from Engineering, Product Management, Advertising Sales, Marketing and Communications from the initial stages of product development to launch.
  • Develop expertise in global content regulations and collaborate with other product counsel and the Public Policy team to advise cross-functional teams on the impact of these laws on YouTube's and Google's business.
