ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you will support manufacturing operations by managing capital equipment projects and operational improvement initiatives to help ensure a safe, high-quality, and high-performance work environment.

You will lead and collaborate with cross-functional partners in Maintenance, Manufacturing Operations, Safety, Learning & Development, and Lean organizations to ensure new and revised processes are implemented effectively and with precision.

You will continuously identify opportunities to eliminate losses, build new capabilities, and implement new technologies, with a primary focus on improving safety, quality, cost, and productivity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage new equipment capital projects from the concept phase through startup.

  • Develop project budgets, obtain funding approval, and manage project costs throughout the life of the project.

  • Develop equipment and process specifications for new equipment using the SCJ Early Management Engineering work process.

  • Investigate, drive, and assist in the implementation of cost-saving projects, manufacturing process optimization, business process optimization, and productivity improvements related to existing manufacturing equipment and processes.

  • Collaborate with R&D, Procurement, and Process Development teams during the new product development process to ensure all new product specifications are aligned with the site's manufacturing capabilities.

  • Develop site standards and best practices for equipment and processes for reapplication to other areas.

  • Participate in the capital planning process and the development of strategic equipment plans for the site.

  • Act as a technical resource and mentor to peers.

  • Ensure compliance with SCJ Global Standards and other applicable regulations.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPEREINCE

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a similar manufacturing- or industrial-related discipline.

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience related to capital projects in a manufacturing setting.

  • Experience in the CPG, food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, or other similar high-volume manufacturing industries.

  • Experience specifying custom equipment to meet project objectives.

  • Technical experience with filling, labeling, and packaging equipment and processes related to aerosol or liquid container products.

  • Wisconsin Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Cost-estimating experience to establish project budgets and the ability to execute projects within budget targets.

  • Knowledge of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) principles and the ability to ensure new equipment meets all aspects of OEE to achieve performance targets.

  • Experience using 2D and 3D CAD systems for plant layout and machine design.

  • Knowledge of Process FMEA and Process Control Planning methodologies.

  • Understanding of machine safety principles, risk assessment, and performance levels in accordance with ISO and OSHA standards.

  • Project management experience, including developing project plans, budgets, timelines, and communicating status updates and risks throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Vendor and contractor management experience, including onboarding and managing relationships with vendors and contractors and ensuring contractors meet minimum safety requirements.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Teamwork skills, including the ability to serve as a team member or team leader and influence others to achieve objectives.

  • Business acumen and adaptability, including understanding the business implications of decisions, aligning work with strategic goals, and adapting to frequent changes in priorities driven by dynamic business needs.

  • Innovation, including demonstrating original thinking, creativity, and resourcefulness to generate innovative approaches and ideas.

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity by identifying problems, recommending objectives, and developing a course of action to deliver results.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship for full-time employment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time, first-shift position. Occasional off-shift flexibility for night or weekend work as projects require.

  • Travel expected in the range of 5–10%. Some international travel may be required.

  • This role is NOT eligible for domestic relocation.
