What you'll be doing

The Energy, Infrastructure, & Transition (“EIT”) team provides investment banking services to existing and prospective clients in the renewable and conventional power, utilities, midstream, upstream energy, infrastructure, energy transition and climate technology sectors. The team has a global coverage strategy across North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia. Our client-centric approach incorporates M&A and other financial advisory services with full access to the debt, equity and loan capital markets. The team also delivers complex risk and hedging solutions to clients. The EIT team manages a market leading platform from our offices in Toronto, New York, Houston, Calgary, London and Bogota.

The team’s coverage mandate includes renewable and conventional power (solar, wind, hydro, biomass, natural gas, nuclear and storage), utility and utility infrastructure (regulated utilities, district energy),  infrastructure (airports, roads, ports, rail and logistics, digital), energy transition, midstream and upstream oil and gas. The EIT team supports our clients through a variety of transactions including M&A, capital structure and strategic advisory, equity and debt capital financings, and tax equity transactions. Through such transactions, our specialized global platform and subject matter expertise enables us to help our clients meet their goals, including net zero and climate goals.

With guidance from Managing Directors, Executive Directors and Directors, you will complete assignments that impact the firm's bottom line through transaction and financing execution, client relationship support, industry and company research, and contributing to the overall communication flow across our global offices. The role provides you with meaningful learning opportunities and an ability to observe and influence the strategic direction of our clients’ businesses with exposure to company executives and board of directors.

This role is based in Toronto with a focus on global coverage of the power, utilities and infrastructure sectors.

The expected annualized base salary for this role is $135,000.

The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How you’ll succeed

  • Execution – Play a key client-facing role in the execution of live mandates including M&A, strategic advisory and financing transactions across a wide variety of industry verticals.

  • Proposal – Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals, “pitchbooks” and client coverage materials. Prepare industry and financial analysis to assist with the development of client recommendations.

  • Research and Analysis Conduct industry research and quantitative analysis to create and direct complex financial analysis and models while extracting the “big picture” implications of such analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities.

  • Financial Modeling – Develop and audit sophisticated financial models.

  • Relationship Building – Collaborate with our global teams and colleagues to execute on transactions across our global offices. Grow your internal and external networks with clients and relevant team members and product specialists.

  • Due Diligence – Conduct due diligence in the context of M&A, advisory and financing deal execution.

Who you are

  • You have an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Computer Science or Economics. Completion of a CA or CFA, is preferred and an MBA or Masters in Finance is an asset.

  • You can demonstrate relevant industry experience. A minimum of 3 to 4 years of previous experience in one or more of investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, project financing, tax equity, or investment review. Experience must have included meaningful financial modeling and analysis. Working knowledge of the power, utilities and/or infrastructure sectors as well as direct investment banking experience are assets.

  • You are success-oriented. Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames. Success to you is helping solve and execute on the complex financial and strategic needs of our clients.

  • You have relevant financial skills. Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow and returns analyses. Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations.

  • You possess technical skills (Programs, Methodologies, Systems). Strong quantitative technical skills as it relates to basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), industry technology (FactSet, Bloomberg) and other applicable software.

  • You’re motivated by collective success. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, and internal and/or external business partners.

  • You have effective communication skills. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues.
