Full Job Description
Overview

We are seeking an Associate, Estate & Commercial Litigation to join our growing litigation practice. This role focuses on representing clients in estate, fiduciary, shareholder, contractual, and commercial disputes. It is a litigation-focused opportunity for a lawyer who is passionate about advocacy and dispute resolution, rather than estate planning, wills drafting, or estate administration.

Working closely with experienced litigators, as well as KPMG's Private Enterprise and Family Office teams, you will gain exposure to sophisticated and challenging matters involving individuals, families, business owners, trustees, executors, beneficiaries, and corporations. You will progressively assume responsibility for your own files, build client relationships, and develop your advocacy skills in a collaborative and supportive environment.

What you will do

  • Advise and represent clients in estate, trust, fiduciary, shareholder, corporate, contractual, and commercial litigation matters
  • Manage files through all stages of the litigation process while progressively assuming carriage of your own matters
  • Draft pleadings, motion materials, affidavits, facta, mediation briefs, and other advocacy materials
  • Conduct legal research and prepare written and oral submissions
  • Appear before courts, mediators, arbitrators, and other dispute resolution forums
  • Conduct examinations for discovery, attend mediations, participate in hearings, and support trial preparation
  • Resolve disputes involving trustees, executors, beneficiaries, fiduciaries, shareholders, business owners, and other stakeholders
  • Advise clients on a broad range of commercial disputes, including contract, shareholder, partnership, and business-related matters
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships while delivering practical, strategic legal advice
  • Stay current on developments in litigation, dispute resolution, and relevant areas of law

What you bring to the role

  • 2-4 years of post-call litigation experience
  • Experience in estate litigation, commercial litigation, civil litigation, or a related litigation practice area
  • Membership in good standing with the LSO
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills
  • Experience drafting pleadings, affidavits, motions, facta, and other litigation materials
  • Experience participating in discoveries, mediations, hearings, arbitrations, motions, or trials
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple active litigation files
  • Sound professional judgment, commercial awareness, and a client-focused approach
  • A collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in building a long-term career in litigation
