Full Job Description
Role Summary:

We are recruiting for an Associate to join our Securities Selection team in our Active Equities department. The successful candidate will be joining a domain team which focuses on public companies within the Global Consumer Staples sector. Reporting to the Managing Director, Active Equities, the Associate is responsible for conducting sector focused, deep bottom-up fundamental research primarily on investment ideas and current portfolio holdings. The position is based in New York.

The Active Equities ("AE") department invests in large-cap public and pre-IPO equities in North America, Europe, Asia and LATAM. The strategy employs bottom-up and deep fundamental research insights to create a concentrated market-neutral portfolio of high conviction long and short investments. The Security Selection team has a global structure with the focus of generating differentiated long and short insights by leveraging specific domain level expertise.

  • Work directly with investment professionals on the Global Consumer Staples domain team to evaluate potential long and short public and pre-IPO investment opportunities
  • With guidance, execute investment research leveraging domain expertise and deep fundamental research insights within the Global Consumer Staples sectors
  • Participate in meetings with the company management teams, industry experts and attend industry and broker conferences as part of the research process, with travel where necessary
  • Maintain company financial models and perform valuation analysis, including DCF and comparable company analyses; apply statistical analysis to support investment decisions
  • With guidance, prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry overviews, written investment memos and due diligence reviews
  • Research, analyze and monitor macro level industry trends and fundamental performance of existing portfolio holdings
  • Increasingly incorporate research insights by leveraging alternative data sets


Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field or advanced degree or certification; (CFA) is an asset
  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience in equity research or a buy-side investment role
  • Knowledge and interest in investing and the Consumers sector
  • Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Advanced computer/technical skills - MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Bloomberg
  • Advanced technical skills an asset: Python, SQL, exposure to Big Data workflows and analytic tools (Spark/Databricks, etc.)
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Highly detail-oriented with an ability to produce high quality work
  • Ability to prioritize work and simultaneously manage multiple responsibilities
  • Team-oriented and collaborative
  • Keen interest in capital markets and the investment research process
