Job Summary

As an Associate Engineer  on the Supply Acquisition Team your primary focus will be supporting the development and implementation of local resource programs , water supply purchases, in-region and out-of-region storage programs, transfers, and water exchanges. You will be supporting many facets of water resource management including, but not limited to, : water resource planning, contract negotiations, cost estimates, cost assessments and reconciliations, maintaining program data, report preparations, invoices, and supporting the team in developing new programs.

 

Your work experience with a variety of water resources, ability to effectively communicate and interact with others, and competence with Microsoft Excel will be critical to your success in this position.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Drive Documentation Strategy: Help support documentation development by analyzing resource needs, coordinating program implementation timelines, and managing overlapping schedules to ensure critical information is delivered when needed.
  • Produce High-Impact Content: Help develop and evaluate a wide range of materials including policy principles, contracts, cost analysis, and technical reports, ensuring everything meets regulatory and internal standards.
  • Visualize Complex Data: Help design and develop technical presentation materials, flowcharts, and graphics, incorporating multimedia elements like photography and video to enhance comprehension.
  • Ensure Precision and Accountability: Help perform meticulous data review for completeness and accuracy. Help develop and manage program budgets, while tracking performance and reconciling costs.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Serve as an important contributor on project teams, applying technical expertise to cross-functional initiatives that support Metropolitan’s mission.

 

Schedule: 9/80, Monday through Friday, every other Friday Off.

 

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field AND four years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Assistant Engineer II level; OR a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience which must have been at the Assistant Engineer II level

 

Relevant/Related Experience is defined as: working experience with water resources (groundwater, recycled water, hydrology, hydraulics and water treatment processes, etc).

 

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

 

License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent that allows you to drive during your employment is required at time of application.
