We are hiring a Full-Time, Permanent Associate Director, WWC Maintenance position working out of Aurum in Edmonton, AB.

The Associate Director, WWC Maintenance is accountable for the maintenance, reliability, and administration of Wastewater Collection (WWC) assets within the Edmonton area. This role is responsible for leading and developing teams that operate and maintain the WWC system, including the inspection, maintenance, repair, and condition assessment of infrastructure assets. The position oversees the delivery of annual preventive maintenance programs and sustainable capital initiatives while ensuring regulatory and contractual compliance. In addition, the Associate Director is accountable for budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and achieving operational and strategic objectives with a time span of accountability extending up to 1 to 2 years.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Provide strategic input into WWC plans and direction while ensuring alignment and integration with broader Water Services business objectives.
  • Develop and execute operational plans that translate strategy into measurable objectives with a 1 to 2 year planning horizon.
  • Establish annual priorities and work plans to support operational and strategic goals.
  • Anticipate long-term challenges, risks, and opportunities and implement proactive solutions.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and resource plans to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Monitor the execution of business plans and adjust resources and priorities to meet changing operational demands.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance operational performance and asset management.
  • Lead continuous improvement and organizational change initiatives to improve efficiency, service delivery, and business outcomes.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on key performance metrics and implement corrective actions as required.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with corporate policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and lead high-performing teams while supporting succession planning and employee development.
  • Build and maintain effective cross-functional relationships and collaborate with stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
  • Oversee responsive, preventative, and planned maintenance and repair programs for wastewater collection infrastructure, including emergency response activities.
  • Direct infrastructure inspection, monitoring, condition assessment, and investigation programs to support asset reliability and long-term planning.
  • Champion a zero-injury safety culture and environmental stewardship by ensuring regulatory compliance, incident prevention, and adherence to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standards.


What's required to be successful

Education
  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering or related field.
  • P.Eng. designation is considered an asset.
  • Supplementary technical certification (Alberta Environment Water Level IV Certification) is considered an asset.


Experience
  • 10 + years experience in a Utility Environment with a focus on wastewater collection systems.
  • Familiarity with operational and capital finance practices and their regulatory impacts.
  • Built and led teams in a unionized environment.
  • Able to effectively network in business unit, and throughout the organization.
  • Planned, resourced, led, developed and delivered programs, projects or initiatives that align with an articulated strategic direction.


Knowledge/Technical Skills
  • Understands waste water collection systems, regulatory requirements, monitoring techniques and equipment related to wastewater and associated parameters.
  • Ability to anticipate, assess and readily adapt to changing priorities, maintain resilience in times of uncertainty and effectively work and lead in a changing environment.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills (written and verbal) in dealing with customers. Senior management, regulatory agencies, technical/professional staff and other stakeholders as required.
  • Proven skills in leading and motivating teams with a track record of building healthy and positive workplace environments that enable staff to reach their potential while strengthening organizational capacity.
  • Proven planning and organizational skills to manage program delivery, financial and human resources to achieve deliverables.
  • Aware of organizational risks and impacts regarding safety and environmental incidents, brand reputation, and revenue adjustments.
