What is the opportunity?

As an Associate Director, Real Estate Markets Finance, you will be supporting Directors in the Real Estate Markets ("REM") group by underwriting new loan requests, completing annual reviews and loan amendments, as well as perform other credit related functions. The successful individual will be a trusted strategic advisor who collaborates with internal and external partners to support clients' credit relationships.

What will you do?
  • Provide Directors with specific deal support for bilateral and syndicate loans including proforma and budget analysis, cash flow analysis, financial statements review, market analysis and credit writing;
  • Work with Directors to help structure competitively tailored credit solutions, managing transactions from credit writing to risk approval to the funding stage;
  • Proactively manage credit portfolio quality. This includes establishing a routine with Directors to review their pipelines, collecting financial reporting, managing the compliance and covenant testing process, actioning timely credit renewals;
  • Deliver exceptional client experience by responding quickly to credit requests, minimizing turnaround times and delivering sound credit structuring advice and client centric solutions that support business growth;
  • Perform daily administration of the Group's lending portfolio; actively participate in team initiatives such as presenting on industry trends, executing credit requests, updating strategic limit reviews, providing portfolio and other credit reporting;


What do you need to succeed?

Must-have
  • Experience in commercial real estate, commercial banking, and/or similar credit analysis and underwriting experience in commercial finance;
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, meet time sensitive deadlines and prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet client needs;
  • An undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance with strong quantitative, financial modeling, and analytical skills, as well as an ability to analyze financial statements;
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate effectively;
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, technical and computer skills (especially Microsoft Excel);
  • Detail-oriented, able to synthesize data and communicate in a succinct and clear manner;
  • Professional and effective oral and written communication skills with high level of attention to detail in both written work and financial analysis;
  • Self-motivated, proactive, critical thinker with creative problem-solving abilities;
  • Able to adapt quickly, always learning, and thriving in the face of ambiguity;
  • Independent worker and team player with a positive attitude


Nice-to-have
  • Experience working with large, complex real estate credit and syndicate transactions;
  • Experience financing a wide range of real estate asset classes, including rental apartments, low-rise condos, single-family or multi-family homes, high-rise condominiums, commercial properties, hotels, senior housing and/or master planned communities;
  • Client facing experience;
  • Experience with peer coaching and mentorship;
  • MBA, CPA or CFA
