Job Description

Associate Director, Orchestration Engine - Business Lead

What you will do

Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role, you will serve as the dedicated Orchestration Engine business lead for Amgen's diverse portfolio, helping brand teams shape more relevant, coordinated customer experiences across channels.

Reporting to the Director, End-to-End Capabilities - Orchestration Engine, you will translate portfolio and brand priorities into clear business requirements, governed decision logic, and scalable orchestration capabilities. You will partner with brand teams, Decision Sciences, Technology, CRM, CDP, content, channel, and vendor teams to design and deploy capabilities spanning Next Best Action, audience activation, customer journey orchestration, and workflow automation.

You will act as the business product owner for the assigned portfolio-coordinating brand engagement, use-case definition, requirements, deployment readiness, and adoption. You will ensure that individual brand needs contribute to reusable enterprise orchestration capabilities and decisioning patterns rather than isolated, one-time solutions.

Through strong business partnership and matrixed leadership, you will help embed intelligence into Marketing workflows and enable Amgen to deliver the right action, to the right stakeholder, at the right time.

This role is a Flexible Commuter role to one of two U.S. sites, Thousand Oaks, California, or Deerfield, Illinois. You will work on-site a minimum of three days per week.

Portfolio Engagement & Use-Case Prioritization

  • Serve as the primary Orchestration Engine partner for assigned portfolio and brand teams.

  • Partner with brands to define desired cross-channel customer experiences and identify high-value orchestration opportunities.

  • Translate portfolio priorities into a sequenced backlog of NBA, audience activation, journey orchestration, and workflow use cases.

  • Assess opportunities based on business value, customer and patient impact, readiness, feasibility, and potential for enterprise reuse.

  • Identify common requirements across brands and translate them into reusable decisioning patterns and activation capabilities.

Business Requirements & Capability Design

  • Translate brand objectives and customer journey needs into business requirements, user stories, decision rules, and acceptance criteria.

  • Define how data, analytics, AI-generated recommendations, business rules, and human judgment should come together in operational workflows.

  • Co-design orchestration capabilities with Decision Sciences, Technology, CRM, CDP, content, channel, and vendor partners.

  • Define eligibility criteria, prioritization requirements, workflow handoffs, approval points, and business guardrails.

  • Ensure recommendations are relevant, explainable, compliant, and actionable within Marketing workflows.

  • Represent portfolio requirements while aligning to enterprise Orchestration Engine standards and architecture.

Delivery, Deployment & Adoption

  • Provide business ownership from discovery and design through testing, deployment, and optimization.

  • Coordinate brand participation in workshops, requirements validation, user acceptance testing, and release readiness.

  • Partner with Technology and vendor teams to resolve requirements, dependencies, risks, and implementation decisions.

  • Coordinate rollout and adoption plans with brand, Marketing Operations, and change-management partners.

  • Drive adoption of Orchestration Engine capabilities across the assigned Marketing organization.

  • Gather user feedback and translate learnings into product, workflow, and roadmap enhancements.

  • Help extend successful capabilities efficiently across additional brands and use cases.

Governance, Measurement & Improvement

  • Apply enterprise standards for NBA, decision logic, audience activation, journey orchestration, and human-led decision-making.

  • Ensure business rules, eligibility criteria, prioritization logic, and approval workflows are documented and governed.

  • Partner with Legal, Regulatory, Privacy, Compliance, and other control functions as appropriate.

  • Define success measures for assigned orchestration use cases.

  • Monitor adoption, recommendation utilization, workflow performance, and business impact with analytics partners.

  • Use performance data and stakeholder feedback to improve decisioning patterns and customer experiences.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Communication

  • Serve as the bridge between brand stakeholders, Decision Sciences, Technology, activation teams, and vendor partners.

  • Lead matrixed teams through requirements definition, design decisions, testing, deployment, and adoption.

  • Communicate portfolio roadmap progress, decisions, risks, dependencies, and impact.

  • Translate analytical, AI, and technical concepts into clear business implications and actionable recommendations.

  • Balance portfolio-specific needs with enterprise scalability and reuse.
