Associate Director of Intensive Services

Associate Director of Intensive Services

Under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Associate Director of Intensive Services provides strategic and operational leadership for the agency's intensive behavioral health programs, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented services. This position oversees program operations, clinical and administrative performance, compliance, quality improvement, financial stewardship, and staff development while ensuring programs meet contractual, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. The Associate Director partners with executive leadership to achieve organizational goals, improve client outcomes, and expand access to intensive behavioral health services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Diversity, Inclusion & Equity (DEI) and Trauma Informed Resilience Oriented Community (TIROC) practices are infused throughout the programing.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the organization to assure that the department services and activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the clients we serve.
  • Review department policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., at least annually, and participate in making recommended changes and ensure that program is always compliant with Council of Accreditation (COA) standards.
  • Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent to client care information to assure clients' rights are protected.
  • Represent the organization as ambassadors and experts in the field with external stakeholders, partnering agencies, and governmental entities.
  • Develop a culture within the program of learning and embed Continuous Quality Improvement within all areas of the work.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and oversight for intensive outpatient and community-based behavioral health programs.
• Supervise Program Managers, Supervisors, and other leadership staff.
• Develop operational strategies to improve program effectiveness, client outcomes, and efficiency.
• Monitor program capacity, staffing, productivity, and service utilization.
• Ensure timely access to care and high-quality service delivery.
• Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and program growth.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, county, payer, and accreditation requirements.
• Oversee Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives across intensive service programs.
• Monitor quality indicators, client outcomes, productivity, documentation compliance, grievances, and incident reporting.
• Lead corrective action planning and monitor implementation.
• Monitor program budgets, expenditures, and financial performance.
• Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement improvement strategies.
• Collaborate with finance and leadership to maximize reimbursement and ensure contract performance.
• Identify opportunities for program expansion and new funding sources.
• Recruit, hire, coach, supervise, and evaluate management staff.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Support leadership development and succession planning.
• Ensure staff receive required training and professional development.
• Develop collaborative relationships with county agencies, managed care organizations, healthcare providers, hospitals, and community partners.
• Represent the organization at meetings, collaborative initiatives, and community events.
• Support contract negotiations and partnership development.
• Lead the implementation of FSP HFW
• Other duties as assigned.

Collaboration and Leadership
• Serve as liaison between clinical leadership, administrative staff, and external partners regarding operational needs
• Provide supervision or coordination of assigned administrative or operational staff
• Support cross-department problem-solving to improve service delivery
• Participate in strategic planning related to access, growth, and operational excellence

What you will need to bring:

? Master's degree in social work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field.

? Active California licensure (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or Psychologist) preferred, depending on program requirements.

? Five or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in behavioral health.

? At least three years of management or supervisory experience.

? Experience overseeing intensive behavioral health services and multidisciplinary teams.

? Knowledge of Medi-Cal, managed care, documentation standards, and behavioral health regulations.

? Strong financial, operational, and performance management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

? Experience with county behavioral health contracts.

? Knowledge of COA and FSP HFW.

? Experience implementing quality improvement initiatives.

? Bilingual preferred.
