The Associate Director, MSK Studios leads the institution's in-house video production function, overseeing strategy, creative development, editorial excellence, optimization, and operational execution to deliver impactful storytelling that supports MSK's mission and organizational priorities.
This role serves as the senior leader for video content production, guiding a multidisciplinary team in the creation of compelling multimedia experiences across digital, social, internal, educational, and brand channels. The Associate Director drives innovation, implements best-in-class production practices and emerging technologies, and ensures all video content is accurate, audience-focused, strategically aligned, and measurable in advancing institutional goals.
Role Overview- Lead the day-to-day creative, editorial, operational, and people management functions of MSK Studios, ensuring the delivery of high-impact video content that advances institutional priorities.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive video production strategy aligned with MSK's mission and core pillars of patient care, research, education, and emphasizes innovation.
- Evaluate and prioritize video production requests, allocating resources across internal teams, freelancers, production partners, and self-service solutions based on strategic objectives and organizational needs.
- Serve as the senior editorial and creative leader for video storytelling initiatives, providing guidance on concepts, scripts, interviews, production approaches, and final deliverables.
- Recruit, manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team while fostering a collaborative culture centered on creativity, accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
- Oversee production calendars, project intake processes, workflows, budgets, production resources, vendor relationships, and asset management systems.
- Partner with stakeholders across communications, marketing, digital, social media, research, clinical, fundraising, education, and executive teams to deliver compelling and strategically aligned content.
- Lead the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI-enabled production tools and workflow solutions, to enhance efficiency, creativity, scalability, and performance.
- Establish success metrics, analyze performance data, and use audience insights to optimize content and strategies, inform future planning, and maximize organizational impact.
Key Qualifications - 7+ years of experience leading video production, multimedia, editorial, content, or creative teams, preferably within healthcare, science, academic, nonprofit, media, or other mission-driven organizations.
- Demonstrated success managing and mentoring teams, hiring and onboarding freelancers, agencies, vendors, budget oversight, production schedules, and overseeing complex cross-functional initiatives.
- Proven ability to translate complex medical, scientific, clinical, or institutional topics into clear, engaging, and audience-centered storytelling.
- Experience developing and executing video content strategies across digital, social, campaign, event, recruitment, internal communications, and reputation-building channels.
- Experience with Search Engine Optimization, and AI strategies to optimize content and drive engagement
- Strong knowledge of modern production technologies, AI-assisted workflows, accessibility standards, digital content best practices, and analytics-driven content optimization.
