Position Summary:

The Associate Director, Medical Communications is responsible for supporting the development and execution of strategic, integrated medical communication initiatives across marketed products and pipeline indications. This role plays a key part in translating complex scientific data into clear, compelling, and audience-appropriate communications that support Medical Affairs objectives and enhance stakeholder understanding. The Associate Director will also support key medical congress activities, contribute to scientific narrative development, and help drive consistency, quality, and compliance across all medical communications.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in creation of integrated medical communications strategy and tactical plans for therapeutic areas in accordance with brand strategies and incorporating modern digital channels and tools
  • Lead development of field ready MSL materials including fit for purpose slide decks and other digital MSL tools, partnering with MSL training and medical reviewer. Manage and streamline repository of MSL materials
  • Lead development of other audience (APPs, RDs, non-expert physicians, PCPs, patient advocacy outreach) tailored materials including but not limited to infographics, plain language summaries, short audio/videos, podcasts, and other modern medical/scientific communication tools
  • Partner cross-functionally to optimize the use of medical digital platforms, channels, and tools by their respective teams. Use functional KPIs for optimization
  • Assist with development of medical communication materials for internal presentations - e.g., lunch & learn on recent Ardelyx conference posters and published manuscripts. Partner with publications counterpart to these and other deliverables as appropriate
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of scientific platforms, scientific story, and lexicon for all marketed and pipeline indications
  • Support medical activities at major and smaller specialty GI and Nephrology congresses. The activities entail medical booth space and content development, conference coverage, pre-congress medical overview, and post-congress medical reports
  • Partner effectively with key internal stakeholders internally (e.g., commercial teams, clinical teams, biostats, publications, medical directors, field medical, training, medical review, and medical information) and external stakeholders as relevant
  • Develop and maintain networks of HCPs who are digital opinion leaders

Qualifications:
  • MS degree, advanced degree (PhD, PharmD or MD) preferred, with 6 - 8 years of Medical Affairs experience within Medical or Scientific communications, publications, medical information, medical science liaison, or clinical research functions, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant experience in a pharmaceutical company, including within or cross functionally interacting with Field Medical teams is desired
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and consistently build and maintain high level of trust and effectively collaborate with internal and external colleagues
  • Proven ability to execute key projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Strong ability to interpret, organize and communicate complex scientific data in a concise manner
  • Strong project planning and management skills
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical and promotional compliance guidelines, laws, industry standard practice, and applicable regulatory guidelines pertaining to medical content development
  • Attendance at periodic national internal and external meetings and medical congresses
  • Demonstrated customer-centered approach
  • Up to 10% travel, including overnight and occasional weekend travel

The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $194,000-$230,000. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
