About This RoleThe
Associate Director, Global DevOps & Observability Platform is a
strategic leadership role first, designed for a visionary leader who can harmonize global engineering efforts into a unified, world-class ecosystem. While rooted in deep technical credibility, this role focuses on driving the overarching strategy, delivery, and ongoing evolution of the organization's centralized
DevOps and Observability platform capabilities.
The primary mission is to steer a
centralized Global Platform strategy that brings together disparate "pockets of innovation" across global regions, aligning them into a cohesive, enterprise-scale engineering standard. You will champion the enterprise-wide ownership of our GitHub Enterprise ecosystem and a centralized, reusable CI/CD pipeline framework. Simultaneously, you will establish a comprehensive
Observability Platform strategy, ensuring that telemetry, monitoring, and proactive reliability metrics are natively baked into the developer lifecycle from day one.
The successful candidate will be a self-motivated leader and cultural changemaker who thrives on engaging with global stakeholders, breaking down regional silos, and mentoring high-performing engineering teams. You will establish the standards, governance, and developer experience (DevEx) paradigms that enable hundreds of internal software teams to deliver secure, observable, and resilient software at scale-shifting the organization from reactive engineering to proactive innovation.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Global Platform Harmonization- Unify Global Innovation: Identify, celebrate, and integrate localized "pockets of innovation" from global teams into the core centralized platform, scaling regional successes into global standards.
- Platform Vision & Roadmap: Define and execute the multi-year strategic roadmap for the Global DevOps and Observability Platforms, aligning capabilities with overarching business objectives and cloud-native trends.
- Stakeholder & Change Management: Act as a primary liaison and advocate across global business units, Cloud Engineering, Information Security, and Application Development teams to drive platform adoption and foster a modern DevOps and SRE culture.
- Team & Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and scale a global team of platform and reliability engineers, providing technical direction, career development, and fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture.
DevOps Platform Strategy & GitHub Ownership- Enterprise GitHub Governance: Own the overarching architecture, administration, and compliance framework for GitHub Enterprise across the global footprint.
- Standardized CI/CD Frameworks: Oversee the development of a centralized, reusable GitHub Actions workflow and pipeline library, enabling global teams to leverage consistent, secure software delivery patterns without reinventing the wheel.
- Shift-Left Security: Drive the global adoption of GitHub Advanced Security (GHAS) capabilities, including code scanning, Dependabot, and automated secret detection natively embedded into the delivery lifecycles.
Observability Platform Engineering & SRE Culture- Centralized Telemetry Strategy: Define and lead the architecture of the enterprise Observability Platform (covering metrics, logs, traces, and synthetic monitoring) to provide full-stack visibility.
- Standardized Monitoring & Alerting: Establish enterprise-wide patterns for dashboards, proactive alerting, and incident response tooling integration, shifting teams from reactive debugging to predictive reliability.
- Data-Driven Insights: Develop and evangelize platform observability capabilities, establishing golden signals, DORA metrics, and developer experience metrics dashboards to measure global delivery velocity and platform health.
Cloud Integration, Governance & Compliance- Cloud Ecosystem Alignment: Collaborate closely with Cloud Platform teams to seamlessly integrate CI/CD and Observability platforms with automated Infrastructure as Code (IaC) patterns across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments.
- Global Security & Compliance Guardrails: Partner with Global Security and Compliance organizations to bake automated governance (SAST, DAST, SCA, and audit logs) directly into the platform infrastructure, ensuring frictionless compliance.
Required Qualifications:- Experience & Education:
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience in DevOps, Observability, Platform Engineering, or Software Delivery, with at least 3+ years in a dedicated leadership/management capacity within a global matrixed enterprise.
Preferred Qualifications: - Strategic & Cultural Impact: Demonstrated track record of scaling centralized platform engineering organizations and successfully aligning distributed regional engineering teams under a singular global vision.
- DevOps Expertise: 5+ years of strategic or hands-on experience with GitHub Enterprise administration, GitHub Actions, and deep familiarity with advanced CI/CD architectural patterns.
- Observability Expertise: Proven experience defining strategy and scaling enterprise-grade Observability tools (e.g., LogicMonitor, Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, or Splunk) across hybrid and multi-cloud architectures.
- Cloud & Architecture Acumen: Strong foundational knowledge of cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, Serverless), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and embedding security practices (DevSecOps) at scale.
- Communication Mastery: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to influence executive stakeholders and technical individual contributors alike.
Note on Leadership Style: While this role requires deep technical acumen to effectively guide architectural decisions and earn the respect of engineering teams, it is
first and foremost a strategic leadership position. Success is measured by platform adoption, organizational alignment, cultural transformation, and global delivery velocity.
