Full Job Description
We are seeking an Associate Director for Evaluation who will balance the core admissions officer responsibilities of recruitment and management of a regional territory while also providing leadership and management of staff and key programmatic or process areas across the office. In this focused role, he/she will provide oversight for the development and execution of all reading and selection processes for undergraduate admissions, across all cycles, which total more than 45,000 applications per year.

The Associate Director will sit on the management team and partner with the Senior Director of Undergraduate Admissions to identify opportunities, create and improve workflow, and support the development of staff members throughout the evaluation process.

Specific Duties & Responsabilities
  • Provides leadership and management of all evaluation and workflow across all admissions cycles (Early, regular, and transfer admissions).
  • Oversees staff growth and development throughout the reading process.
  • Develops and executes training for the staff on evaluation and selection.
  • Oversees the reading and committee schedule and staff assignments for the entire cycle year.
  • Develops and conducts quality control audits of the evaluation and selection process, including staff performance.
  • Overseeing the communication with Homewood Student Affairs departments for incoming class information.
  • Develops and executes training for Homewood Student Affairs departments for advising, orientation information, etc.
  • Recruit, hire, and train a team of part-time readers to assist in the admissions application review process.
  • Design and execute periodic calibration exercises throughout the admissions cycle.
  • Partners with the Associate Director for Information Technology and Director of Systems and Operations to identify and develop tools to analyze and manage workflow.
  • Will be the direct manager for admissions staff members-providing supervision, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Manages a regional territory-reading applications, planning recruitment strategies and initiatives, and managing constituent relationships.
  • Oversees the regional management of his/her direct reports-providing guidance for recruitment strategies and relationship management with secondary school constituents and the review of applications and decisions.
  • Represents JHU Admissions in public events and information sessions.
  • Works collaboratively across teams and with other offices at JHU (e.g., Marketing, Operations, Visitors Center, Financial Aid, etc.).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents and secondary school counselors.
  • Possess excellent writing skills.
  • Be able to represent the university to the public.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Travel and occasional weekend and evening hours, including the ability to travel to events with occasional overnight stays, are required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-graduate Degree preferred.
  • Five years of Admissions experience preferred.
  • Experience as a college or university admissions officer is preferred, which would include recruitment, travel and application review.
