Full Job Description
Job Description

The Associate Director, Email Marketing & Digital Communications is a key contributor to the Mount Sinai Office of Development's donor engagement and fundraising communications strategy. Reporting to the Executive Director of Communications and working closely with the Senior Director of Annual Programs and the Director of Communications to help build and operationalize a best-in-class email program as we transition from a legacy email platform to Salesforce Marketing Cloud. The Associate Director will design and execute donor-facing journeys, automations, segmentation, and dynamic content strategies that support institutional fundraising priorities, events, and deepening engagement over time.

In addition to email, this role will contribute to the creation of digital-first engagement packages and touch points for donors and constituent groups (e.g., strategic newsletters, microsites, curated multimedia content, and cohort- or individual-specific communication experiences).

The role requires a self-starter who can collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external implementation partners, and who uses testing, measurement, and reporting to improve performance and ROI. The incumbent will be someone who thrives in a content-rich and fast-paced environment, and who enjoys collaborating with a wide variety of partners while providing guidance, expertise, and value at a moment of strategic digital evolution.

This role operates within a hybrid work model, with on-site expectations established in alignment with departmental priorities and evolving organizational guidelines. Employees must reside within a commutable distance of the 42nd Street Midtown NYC office. The role may also require occasional evening or weekend hours.

  • Partner with fundraising and engagement communications colleagues to define the Office of Development's email strategy and operating model, including intake, calendaring, creative workflows, QA, approvals, and post-send reporting.
  • Enact the direct response marketing strategies under Senior Director of Annual Programs, working closely together to design, build, and optimize journeys and automations (e.g., Page 2 of 4 welcome, stewardship, event, solicitation, and upgrade paths) that support donor engagement over time across multiple audiences and segments.
  • Serve as a core contributor to the phased Marketing Cloud implementation and migration from the legacy system, collaborating closely with implementation partners, internal technical teams, and stakeholders to establish scalable data and campaign foundations.
  • Contribute to the development of donor-facing digital engagement packages beyond email (e.g., microsites, curated content hubs, targeted digital newsletters, and cohort- or individual-specific communications) in partnership with communications colleagues and vendors.
  • Assist key stakeholders in Alumni Relations and Planned Giving to engage their audiences with timed email communications and newsletters.

  • Analyze email campaign and journey performance, report on KPIs, and translate findings into actionable recommendations to increase ROI.
  • Support deliverability best practices and compliance (e.g., CAN-SPAM and institutional policies), including list hygiene, preference management, sender reputation monitoring, and documentation of standards.
  • Coordinate with a trusted vendor and third-party strategy team to execute projects on time and with high quality, and to incorporate strategic and technical recommendations into day-to-day work.
  • Maintain clear documentation of operational processes, templates, QA checklists, and reporting cadences to ensure continuity, scalability, and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.
