Job Description:

Summary:

The Associate Director, Disability Support is responsible for determining and implementing a full range of accommodations including academic and residential accommodations for students with disabilities. The Associate Director leads a team of Disability Access Advisors (DAAs) who engage in the deliberative and iterative process necessary in considering accommodation requests. The Associate Director is responsible for leading the team operationalizing accommodated testing. The team also provides academic skills support for the full range of students accessing the Office of Student Disability Support services. The Associate Director consults with members of the campus community on related topics for disability support and leads the disability team in reviewing disability documentation to ensure students receive necessary and appropriate academic modifications and reasonable accommodations.

Essential Functions:

1.) Direct Student Service

  • Provides specialized support for students with disabilities, including individual counseling to address the impact of the disability on academic performance, review of disability documentation to determine appropriate accommodations, and assistance with accessing accommodations. Coordinates academic and disability support with unit colleagues and with campus partners. Makes appropriate referrals.

2.) People and Process Management

  • Hire, train, onboard and manage full-time staff and graduate students as needed in evaluating and implementing accommodations. This includes providing ongoing feedback, coaching, mentoring and evaluating performance. Oversee the reasonable accommodation decision-making  function of the Office of Student Disability Support, monitoring processes and making recommendations, as necessary, to modify procedures. Collaborate with the Senior Director, Disability Support to ensure that the work of their direct reports aligns with the unit’s vision and applicable statutes. Lead documentation review meetings and consult with the Senior Director, Disability Support on the most complex disability-accommodation issues.

3.) Outreach and Consultation

  • With Senior Director, provides consultation and professional development for unit staff on topics of expertise and designated populations. Consults on student issues and disabilities with faculty, academic advisors, counselors, campus colleagues, and families. Participates in office and university events; creates publicity in collaboration with direct reports.

4.) Administration

  • Maintains case notes for constituents served using case management system. Authorizes accommodations for students with disabilities; communicates accommodations to students, faculty, and academic advisors. Collaborates with unit staff and other campus partners on programming and service enhancements related to specific student populations. Engages in professional development activities to expand skillset and knowledge of designated populations; serves on university committees, as appropriate. Collects and evaluates data.

5.) Other Duties as Assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position will supervise the Operations Manager, Disability Support and Disability Access Advisors.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • 35 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $85,400.00 - $90,000.00 annually.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree or equivalent.

  • 5 - 8 years of relevant experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience at the postsecondary level and familiarity with the developmental issues of college students.

  • Experience working with people with disabilities and considering requests for accommodation, particularly in the areas of mental health, learning disabilities and ADHD. 

  • Familiarity with reviewing disability documentation including, but not limited to, psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluation reports.

  • Familiarity with 504/ADA/Fair Housing Act requirements.

  • Experience providing academic support services.

  • Experience advocating for student populations.

  • Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills.

  • Supervision experience is strongly preferred.
