Full Job Description
The Associate Director, Contract Management leads a team of Contract Managers responsible for the negotiation, execution, governance, and lifecycle management of supplier agreements supporting Humana's enterprise business objectives. This role drives operational excellence across the contract management function while partnering closely with Category Management, Strategic Sourcing, Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Risk Management, and business stakeholders.

The Associate Director is accountable for developing talent, establishing scalable contract management processes, improving productivity through technology enablement, and ensuring contracts effectively mitigate risk while maximizing business value. This leader serves as a strategic advisor to senior executives and business partners across Humana. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of how procurement, supplier management, legal, compliance, and business operations intersect to support enterprise priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead and evolve the Contract Management function within Enterprise Procurement & Supplier Management.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives that improve contract cycle times, stakeholder satisfaction, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive enterprise transformation efforts, including contract lifecycle management technologies, process redesign, automation, and data-driven decision making.
  • Partner with Procurement leadership to establish long-term operating models and resource strategies.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Contract Managers and supporting resources.
  • Foster a high-performance culture aligned with Humana's values and leadership expectations.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, development plans, succession strategies, and career pathways for team members.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous improvement across teams and supplier categories.

Contract Lifecycle Management

  • Provide oversight of complex supplier agreements from intake through execution and post-signature governance.
  • Ensure consistent use of contract standards, templates, playbooks, and negotiation strategies.
  • Guide resolution of contractual issues involving risk, compliance, business terms, and supplier performance.
  • Support executive-level negotiations involving significant financial commitments or strategic suppliers.

Business & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, legal counsel, sourcing professionals, and supplier management teams.
  • Align contract strategies with enterprise objectives, category roadmaps, and business priorities.
  • Influence stakeholders at all organizational levels to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Facilitate decision-making by communicating contract risks, opportunities, and recommendations in clear business terms.

Risk, Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure supplier agreements address regulatory, legal, privacy, information security, and operational requirements.
  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, Privacy, Information Protection, and Risk teams to maintain adherence to enterprise standards.
  • Establish governance frameworks and monitoring processes for contractual obligations and supplier commitments.
  • Support audit, regulatory, and compliance activities as required.

Operational Excellence

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators, including contract cycle time, quality, compliance, stakeholder satisfaction, and productivity.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Leverage procurement technologies and analytics to improve visibility and decision-making.
  • Lead initiatives that simplify processes and enhance the stakeholder experience.

  • Bring demonstrated experience negotiating complex commercial agreements, leading cross-functional initiatives, influencing senior stakeholders, and communicating effectively with executives.
  • Apply strong knowledge of supplier governance, contractual risk management, and enterprise procurement practices.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in contract management, procurement, strategic sourcing, legal operations, supplier management, or related disciplines.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, with demonstrated success leading diverse teams and effectively navigating complex interpersonal dynamics.

Preferred skills and experience

  • Healthcare, managed care, insurance, or highly regulated industry experience.
  • Experience with contract lifecycle management platforms such as Icertis.
  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation, outsourcing, technology, or enterprise supplier programs.

Additional Information

  • This role reports to the Director of Procurement.
  • This position is fully remote within the United States.
  • This is a people leader role with 5–8 direct reports.
  • Domestic and international travel of up to 10% is required.

Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

 

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$138,900 - $191,000 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
