Overview
The position focuses on providing support to the new Chair of Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine (YSM) by developing and writing proposals for extramural funding and collaborating with the central development office, departmental research management, and central research administration to prepare and submit funding proposals. The role is responsible for accurately monitoring projects, tracking effort and funds expended and committed, and anticipating, at an early stage, any need for changes in project direction, scope, objectives, funding, or timelines. It also involves managing multiple high-priority projects and independently following through on detailed tasks based on general, and sometimes ambiguous, instructions.

Additionally, the position develops strategies to identify and cultivate new donors and funding streams. It facilitates technical discussions and synthesizes, summarizes, and generates insights from large amounts of complex data and information. The role provides training and mentorship to program staff and others to strengthen research operations and development. Responsibilities also include overseeing data collection, analysis, and reporting; reviewing articles, reports, and manuscripts; and overseeing the presentation of research findings at meetings and conferences.

The position manages program operations and administrative functions, which may include planning and scheduling, program evaluation, policy implementation, personnel administration, budgeting, marketing, fundraising, and proposal development. It contributes to the design of program content and policies, as well as strategic planning efforts, and performs other duties as assigned.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas. 2. Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility. 3. Plans and/or participates in planning University activities on a long-term basis to comply with University goals and objectives. 4. Establishes and implements consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility. 5. Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. 6. Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies. 7. Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in related field and seven years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
