Position Title / Rank: Associate Dean, Academic in the College of Computational, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences - Open to University of Guelph Internal Applicants Only

Position Description:

The College of Computational, Mathematical, and Physical Sciences (CCMPS) invites applications for the position of Associate Dean, Academic, open to tenured University of Guelph applicants at the Associate or Full Professor rank.

  • This position is open to internal University of Guelph employees only.
  • The appointment is normally for a five-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
  • The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026.


Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean, Academic provides leadership and strategic direction for all aspects of undergraduate academic programming within CCMPS. The ADA is responsible for supporting academic excellence, student success, curriculum innovation, enrolment strategy, academic governance, and the effective delivery of undergraduate programs across the College. The ADA is a member of the College's senior leadership team and works closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, Chairs, Director, faculty, staff, students, and University-level partners.

More specifically, the responsibilities of the Associate Dean, Academic include but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership for the ongoing development, operations, assessment, and renewal of undergraduate programs and courses across CCMPS, in alignment with the strategic goals of the College and the University of Guelph.
  • Promoting pedagogical excellence and a culture of continuous improvement in teaching and learning across the College.
  • Supporting academic integrity within CCMPS, including decision-making on undergraduate academic misconduct cases and promoting awareness of policies, expectations, and best practices in assessment.
  • Fostering an inclusive academic culture for faculty, staff, and students; supporting reconciliation; and embedding equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization within CCMPS undergraduate curricula and academic practices.
  • Providing leadership for academic governance within CCMPS, including chairing or co-chairing the B.Sc., B.Comp., and B.Math Program Committees and relevant subcommittees, including Admissions and Academic Review.
  • Managing strategic enrolment within the College, including representing CCMPS on the University's Strategic Enrolment Management committee and working closely with CCMPS Chairs and Director to determine annual enrolment targets and priorities.
  • Advising the Dean on resource allocation related to teaching, including instructional capacity, academic support, teaching infrastructure, and other resources required for effective program delivery.
  • Working collaboratively with CCMPS Chairs and Director to ensure efficient and sustainable use of teaching resources across departments, programs, and service teaching responsibilities.
  • Providing leadership and representation for domestic and international recruitment for CCMPS undergraduate programs, in collaboration with relevant College and University partners. Leading, participating in, and coordinating internal and external outreach activities.
  • Engaging regularly with CCMPS student leadership, including the CCMPS Student Council and other student organizations, to foster coordination, communication, and alignment of goals. Ensuring appropriate Dean's Office participation in student-run events, including orientation and other student-facing activities.
  • Coordinating undergraduate awards and scholarship processes, including selection and implementation.
  • Representing CCMPS on strategic University committees, including the Co-operative Program Coordinating Committee, the Council of Associate Deans Academic, Senate, and other committees as appropriate.
  • Providing administrative leadership as a member of the CCMPS senior leadership team (Associate Deans, Dean's Council); acting on behalf of other Associate Deans and acting as Dean, as necessary; and providing leadership and direction for relevant Dean's Office staff.
  • Supervising, coaching and mentoring direct reports / co-reports to the ADA role, including but not limited to the Manager, Undergraduate Studies, Assistant to the Associate Deans, the Recruitment Officer and the Manager, Outreach.


The successful candidate will be a collaborative, thoughtful, and effective academic leader with demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education, student success, academic integrity, inclusive excellence, and collegial governance. They will have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; sound judgment; conflict resolution skills; experience working across academic units; and the ability to build productive relationships with faculty, staff, students, and University partners.

The ideal candidate will bring a strategic and student-centred approach to academic leadership. They will be aware of the broader shifts occurring in post-secondary education and understand their potential impacts on science and technology education. They will also bring an adaptive mindset that is open to new approaches.
