Full Job Description
Position Purpose:

The Associate Data Scientist will work on the Pro Intelligence team, the analytics and data science engine behind The Home Depot's Pro business. Our team partners with Pro sales reps and the Pro Desk to turn data into insights and solutions that drive growth with our most valuable customers. Our team owns the core Pro models, dashboards and data solutions that leaders and teams across the enterprise rely on every day, so your work will have high visibility and business impact. In this role, you will work closely with the Pro Ops team to understand the business, translate their needs into analytical problems, and deliver data-driven solutions using advanced SQL, Tableau and other BI tools. You will maintain and build enterprise dashboards, answer questions from the users who depend on them, and provide insights that help Pro teams make better decisions. You will also grow into data science work alongside our Data Scientists, including predictive modeling and deployment with IT. Success requires strong business acumen, the ability to solve complex analytical problems, clear communication with technical and non-technical audiences, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 70% Solution Development - Design and develop algorithms and models to use against large datasets to create business insights; Supports data science projects by conducting effective analysis to solve business problems; Executes tasks with high levels of efficiency and quality; Consults with Data Scientist or Sr. Data Scientist on appropriate selection, utilization and interpretation of advanced analytical methodologies; Learn about the assigned business areas to provide better solutions by incorporating business-specific knowledge
  • 20% Communicating Results - Effectively communicate insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audience; Support preparation of reports, updates and/or presentations related to progress made on a project or solution; Highlights potential impacts of recommendations to drive alignment and appropriate implementation
  • 10% Technical Learning - Keep up to date on industry trends, best practices and emerging methodologies; Continually develop skills and expertise in data analytics concepts and methodologies; Identify opportunities to apply learnings

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Analytics, Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, etc.); Master's degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, including writing complex queries and working with large datasets (preferably Google BigQuery)
  • Advanced experience with Tableau or other BI tools, including building dashboards and self-service reporting that business partners actually use.
  • Experience solving complex analytical problems and using statistical techniques to uncover insights and drive business decisions
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to senior business stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge or exposure to Prescriptive Modeling
  • Experience in a modern scripting language (preferably Python)
  • Exposure to predictive modeling, including model building, validation and performance monitoring
  • Exposure to model deployment or working with IT/engineering partners to productionize solutions (preferred)
