Job Summary

In-house counsel role providing support across the Legal Department of a growing financial services company focused on insurance, retirement and investment management. The individual will initially focus on developing a deep knowledge of the company's products, services and operations with a focus on managing claims, litigation and regulatory matters. This position offers a tremendous growth opportunity for an attorney interested in joining a high-performing team and building a career in financial services.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support all phases of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including claims disputes, consumer complaints, and regulatory inquiries
  • Assist in managing outside counsel, tracking case developments, and supporting litigation strategy and reporting
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, discovery materials, and responses related to litigation and regulatory matters
  • Partner with compliance and fraud teams to investigate and respond to suspected fraud, policyholder disputes, and regulatory issues
  • Analyze legal and regulatory risks associated with insurance products, distribution channels, and business initiatives
  • Monitor and summarize developments in insurance laws, regulations, and litigation trends impacting the business
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, product, compliance, and operations teams to mitigate legal risk
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Juris Doctor (JD) with a minimum of two years of practical experience in private practice or in-house as well as admission to the Connecticut Bar
  • Experience or Demonstrated Interest in insurance law, financial services regulation, or litigation preferred
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Strong Work Ethic coupled with a Proactive Growth Mindset
