Reporting to the CEO and President, this is a fast-paced and rewarding role with a broad scope in the commercial real estate industry. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has a solid understanding of accounting principles, and is eager to learn and grow within the finance team. The Associate Controller is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the company. This role will assist with managing day-to-day accounting tasks, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting the senior management team with relevant financial data. This position will also be responsible for managing the financial disbursements and accounting activities related to real estate development projects. This role is vital in ensuring the financial health and efficiency of real estate development projects, ensuring that funds are properly allocated and accounted for.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- General Ledger: Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by assisting in reconciliations, posting journal entries, and tracking company transactions.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Support the AP/AR processes, ensuring timely invoicing, processing payments, and managing collections.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist with annual budgeting and periodic financial forecasts by gathering and analyzing relevant data from departments.
- Audit Support: Assist with the preparation for internal and external audits by organizing required documents and helping to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
Internal Controls: Help maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting and other financial processes. - Financial Analysis: Perform basic financial analysis to support business decisions, such as variance analysis and trend reporting.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations and reporting requirements.
System & Process Improvement: Contribute to improving accounting processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy. - Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and support various operational initiatives.
- For ERES Capital projects - oversee disbursements, ensuring timely, accurate payments and compliance with project budgets, contracts, and lender requirements. Manage financial records, perform cost analysis, and prepare comprehensive financial reports to ensure projects stay within budget.
Position Requirements: Skills & Experiences
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles
- Strong familiarity with QuickBooks required
- Basic understanding of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
