Are you looking for your next opportunity?

Sompo is seeking an Assistant Vice President for its Complex Casualty team to handle severity bodily injury and property damage claims. The candidate will be responsible for handling a pending of primary and excess liability claim files presenting significant exposure to Sompo and its insureds.

This position can be based out of any of our US Sompo office locations. New York City, Garden City, NY, Purchase, NY, Morristown, NJ, Chicago, IL, Charlotte, NC or Alpharetta,GA are preferred.

What you'll be doing:

  • Direct handling of complex casualty files involving significant bodily injury, property damage, and/or significant coverage issues.
  • Applying and demonstrating strong technical knowledge, legal insights, accuracy, and responsiveness on claim files with a high degree of customer service.
  • Providing coverage and analytical analysis of potential exposures, developing successful litigation and resolution strategy, establishing appropriate reserves on files;
  • Timely identifying and elevating potential large losses and communicate effectively internally and externally


What you'll bring:

  • 15+ years experience in an insurance-related technical claims position with an emphasis on excess liability, catastrophic bodily injury and/or property damage, and severity claims handling.
  • BA/BS degree required. Juris Doctorate optional
  • Insurance related professional designations/education such as CPCU, IIA & SCLA a plus
  • Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills and ability to establish close working relationship with the underwriting team through open communication and assist with aspects of marketing
  • Some travel required


Salary Range: $150,000 - $175,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
